This guy is our one and only "war daddy" DT. For whatever reason, we have not recruited many of these type players, and the only one recently transferred to Purdue. Halfway through the season, how effective do you see PJ in his fire hydrant role?

do you notice a change when he is not in the game?

where do we get the 2023 war daddy(s) DT(s)?

We have lost a few really good DTs to Clemson in our own recruiting territory, hell worth a few Wins for us.

PJ is doing pretty good at the 1 for us but he isn’t IMHO a traditional 1, he is a really good 3 tech and if we had a decent 1 Tech, PJ would have monster years here…

I dont believe our traditional recruiting region has those type of DTs like they do South and West….Although I think the 2024 class has some good prospects this year from our region but not sure where we stand with recruiting them.

PJ got up to 330 last year I believe and was having a great year until injury.

PJ appears weaker this year compared to last and perhaps the year prior. Who knows when he was back lifting. He's 320 this year, but obviously not strong at the point of attack.

Izzard is back from something as well and he has been ok.

Ellies is hit or miss. Van Der Berg looks like a DE to me, as does Beamon.

Definitely like to see the portal used here in the off season.

I agree for the most part. My only thing is that the staff seems to want to recruit the longer more athletic DE types that “could” be moved inside. I think it is time they reconsider this approach. Also, ESPN recruiting guru Tom Luginbill was on XM the other week talking about USC. His take on the recruiting landscape in their region was that it is grossly lacking talented big men on both sides of the ball. His perspective is that it will be difficult for USC to get OL and DL players through recruiting in their foot print. So, to your point, the west may be lacking good DTs also? Therefore, where are the best prospects coming from? South? NE? Midwest? Christian Wilkins was from Connecticut if I remember correctly and may have been on of PSU’s biggest recruiting losses in the last few years.

Agree with you.... The good DT are coming from Florida. We will see if JF is true to his word when he says we need to get bigger and stronger on defense. Whether its recruiting or the portal (portal would make sense to get better quickly then back it up with recruits) or both they no doubt need to get bigger inside on the DL. Seider and Diaz need to hit FL hard for DTs. Long athletic types fine on the outside but playing OSU and Michigan you need the beef inside.

We are competing with a lot of very good schools in the south... It's a hard sell to get one of those big time kids north to a school that on average wins 8-10 games a year and is third in the conference..this generation of kids are followers, sheep..not independent thinkers...only works if u win and have a great coach developing and putting their coached players in the NFL.. Hard

PJM keeps lining up with his head in the neutral zone. He was flagged earlier in the season for doing this but didn't get called on Saturday. He'd better clean up this habit before OSU.

Maybe we can get some of the A&M players we missed out on as recruits, via the portal. The wheels appear to be coming off in College Station. Of course we have to wait for them to declare their intention to transfer as we wouldn't want to be accused of tampering, because nobody in CFB would dare do such a thing that is against the rules. ;)
