Long did turn some heads at Mississippi State's pro day though when he reeled off a 4.38 forty and had the fastest shuttle time of anyone in the country.
With the depth at wide receiver, it seems nearly impossible that he'll make the roster in 2008 but he is definitely a candidate for the practice squad because he's got the kind of athleticism that makes coaches drool.
Lance freakin' Long? Mr 7 yard out route on 3 and 9?

I seem to remember our coaches referring to Lance as the slowest receiver on the team. Does anyone else recall anything close to that?

but I don't think Pat Washington called him slow. Maybe he called him not the most talented receiver on the team, and we interpreted that as calling him slow.

If that time is correct, I guess it makes sense to use him on reverses. I never got the impression actually watching him that he was fast, although one of the guys on rivals (Willie?) told me he wasn't as slow as people think.

which I doubt, because someone would have taken a flyer on him late in the draft, his football IQ sucks.

He almost cost us the Egg Bowl when Carroll threw an INT because he made the wrong adjustment and broke the wrong way, then of course you have the numerous eight yard out patterns on 3 and 9. He also might have cost us the Tulane debacle when we faked a punt, and it actually worked except that the dumbass stepped out of bounds one yard shy of the first down- and to make it worse, there was no one there to tackle him, he just ran out of bounds.

Anyway, Long couldn't run a 4.38 40 with Hurricane Katrina behind him.
