....it Raffo vs. Cohen to do even more to force MSU nation's hand on this hiring process. The man has totally lost it, and I frankly despise him now.

...he's going to come close to undoing all the good he did for MSU in his prime. I am beyond disgusted with his childish behavior, and I wish he would retire today.

I wish our program was half as stable as yours.

This is honestly the craziest thng I have ever seen as far as baseball coaching changes, and that includes Steinbrenner with the several Billy Martin sagas.

It really is odd, especially if the tossings are Raffo related. I really don't have a problem with Polk recommending a successor. That happens all the time, even in the business world, where a person retiring will often recommend a person to take their position, especially if they've been there for a while.

However, Polk has taken it way too far. The recommendation should not have been made public. It should've been made to your AD/President in private. And that should've been the end of it. Talking about it during postgame shows, writing it in his resignation letter, and constantly pushing for it is going too far.

Polk has gone psycho with this Raffo stuff. I guess it comes from him thinking he is bigger than Mississippi State and therefore he thinks he can dictate what we should do.

And the sad thing is, half of our fanbase thinks Polk is beyond reproach and can do whatever he wants. Only at Mississippi State can a coach who has never won a national title and hasn't won the regualr season conference title in nearly two full decades is considered a legend.

.......is the fact that Polk had never, in all his years in baseball, been thrown out of both games in a double-header. Thinking about how long he's been at this, why now in his final season would this happen? Why now, amidst the controversy that's brewing over who should take his place? Why now, especially when you consider that Polk has generally been much more laid back with his arguments since he returned to MSU? Why now, in the series against the team that's coached by the guy who everyone else wants to be our next head coach? That's a hell of a lot of "coincidence" if you ask me.

this is the first time he has been tossed out all year. I don't think that's a coincidence either.

It's really pretty laughable the way he's handling himself. I'd be curious to see what happens if and when you guys don't hire Raffo. I'm guessing you'll get some good quotes from him in the paper. It could be fun. Maybe he'll even ask to have his name removed from the stadium.

I'm not sure why this is the case, but i do know that it came from a former player. It's obvious that Polk doesn't want to Cohen to take over. He's more important than the school in his mind, and that's ********.

If he's getting tossed on purpose, does Polk actually think Raffo-vs-Cohen for a game and a half (possible more) is a fair comparison? Does he really think the AD should take into account only these games if deciding between R & C?

I got about a page and half into it and thought to myself, Polk has finally gone batshit crazy, so I quit reading there. I hate to see a man who was once a great coach finish out his career like this. The past 7 years have been bad, but even if he'd retired after last season he would have been remembered a lot better than he will be after this years series of cluster-<17>s.

It reaked of a man who had absolutely nothing better to do with his time. It's like he constantly dwells on the NCAA stuff and it finally broke him or something.

The sad part is, the NCAA couldn't care less what Polk thinks and surely dismisses whatever he has to say.

to Polk (in his prime) in some ways, and in some ways he is very different. Cohen is MUCH more aggressive and competitive than Polk, takes chances- sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't like the guy trying to steal home yesterday.

Polk believes that baseball is just a game of dumb luck and chance like poker, and if you play the game "by the book" you should win your share of games- hence "That's baseball".

Cohen tries to put pressure on the other team to try to win, and while that backfires sometimes, sometimes you get rewarded very well. For example, Cohen would probably steal or hit and run where we probably wouldn't, and that might lead to a five run inning wheras we hit into a double play.

Polk doesn't like Cohen's aggressive style, which is similar to Skip Bertman's style. Plus Cohen is not the choirboy that Raffo is, and Polk probably doesn't like the fact that Cohen will drop an f-bomb at a player occassionally.

Personally, I prefer Cohen's style MUCH more than Polk's.

sitting in the cafeteria mumbling to himself. Writing letters to pro players he has never met, giving them advice. The list goes on. His legendary status and the way he ran the program just caused us all to look the other way and figure he was some sort of idiot savant -- which he may be. But, he has finally lost whatever means he had of holding things together, I think.
