If there's one thing Ron Polk has failed miserably at, outside of tactful comments, it's retirement.
Three attempts. Three no-goes.
On Tuesday, the 64-year-old Polk was introduced as UAB's new volunteer assistant coach, two months after stepping down at Mississippi State following 29 years at the helm covering two stints.
He won't be paid an annual salary, and he's not allowed to recruit off campus, according to NCAA by-laws.
Yet, he's excited about his opportunity and reuniting with Blazers coach Brian Shoop, who was an assistant under Polk from 1983-89.
"It's just coaching," he said, while also pointing out he won't have to deal with NCAA matters. "Now, I don't want people comparing me to Brett Favre. Remember, I'm not getting paid."</font>
