He mentioned Palmeiro and Clark specifically as 2 former players he asked to call Byrne and lobby him to hire Raffo.

to congratulate him on the job. See, even The Thrill knows that Polk is not bigger than the university.

i wonder if clark was listening on the other line and thinking to himself..."who the 17 cares?" don't get me wrong i am sure he still loves MSU but is he really so involved that he would actually call the AD and tell him to hire someone? really? i just don't see it but then again i don't know Clark personally.

edit: i also wonder if a call from Polk to Clark is like getting that once a year call from your old crazy ***, senile, drunk uncle during the holidays. you listen and smile and then forget about it til next year.

tried to call between the two press conferences. Must not have let Polk bother him too much.

No problem at all there. But that's a completely different thing that having them on his side with the comments he made. We know for a fact that Clark called to congratulate Cohen and was said to be excited about the hire. No word on Palmeiro but I bet he feels the same way.

called to say "coach Polk wants us to tell you to hire Raffo, but we are sure you will do the right thing."
