Polk was not "actively participating in tonight's contest". I would counter that he has not been "actively participating" for quite some time now.

Well, I guess Raffo is now 1-4 with a save unofficially.

Let me be the first to say this- I don't care if we sweep Arkansas with Raffo at the helm, he still isn't the right choice.

as in Polk is hearing we've made the decision to go in another direction than Raffo and he's throwing a tantrum? I think that's likely.

He's really ruining a lot of his goodwill among a lot of MSU fans this year. Not so much for the losing season. You can kind of excuse that seeing as how it's the only one in his long career and there have been a lot of injuries. But he's really embarrassed the school a lot this year. And he hasn't even tried to look like he cared more about coaching this team this year than trying to bully his way into naming the coach for next year's team.

he promised Raffo the job and this is his way of saying that he kept his promise.

Plus Byrne was out of town, and honestly, who among us hasn't slacked off or not shown up to work when they could get away with it?

Also, this brief "coaching stint" might help him land a little bit better HC job next year.

After browsing the board, I thought, "I wonder if we won tonight. I wonder who we even played." So I checked the MSU website and see that we beat Memphis 4-1. Real good outing by Crosswhite.

I'm just treatin' him like he's a special relative with a mental illness incurred late in life. Remember the good times & try to ignore the unexplicable behavior of the last few years. This is much easier to do since he is retiring (& I'm optimistic Raffo won't get the job).

If Raffo does get the job, it'll be more like the rich old uncle (e.g. Uncle Bob O. Link) leaves you some worthless BS for inheritance.

you're not paying the special relative $300K+ per year to win baseball games.

but again that goes back to he's quittin' this year. A little easier to forgive knowin' that. I get less pissed at him as the year goes by.
