is a not so subtle way of undermining him. Polk knows better. Byrne isn't just some fundraiser elevated to the position of AD. Byrne's father is the AD at Texas A&M, and Byrne has been long groomed for the position of AD here and at OSU and UK. I don't think all should be forgiven with Polk until he publicly apologizes to Byrne because as long as he is our AD any attempts to undermine him in the public realm is the same thing as an attempt to hurt or undermine MSU athletics. When Polk puts himself in opposition of Byrne he puts himself in opposition of MSU. Of course, we've suspected that Polk was more about himself than MSU.

When Polk was calling GB "young" and "fund-raiser" I was thinking that's funny because those are 2 big requirements I had for our new AD.

obviously a positive...just more evidence of how out of touch he is with reality.

that polk makes him out to be. and polk is the iconic college baseball coach who, if not solely responsible for msu's baseball fortunes, is certainly more responsible for msu's success than any other figure. this is his baby, and he got jobbed by someone he has no respect for. all of that is true. now, saying all of that in public in one fashion or another is ridiculous, petty, and insanely egotistical. but, he is a yankee after all.

MSU fandom is responsible for MSU success...what seperates MSU from other baseball programs is not the overwhelming number of National Championships Polk has won (he hasnt won any), nor its trips to the CWS (lots of schools have more trips)....its the unbelievable fans support for weekend SEC series. That is what makes the program special.
It doesnt have ANYTHING to do with Ron Polk, people dont come to Starkville for Ron Polk, (if they did, he should start a Minor league team right now), no they come because its MSU.
Ron Polk could maybe draw 200 people if you took MSU off the baseball cap.
Next season lets see how many MSU with Cohen draws....its about the University not Polk.

It didnt have "ANYTHING" to with Polk? Seriously, its all about the fans? That is ridiculous. I am as disappointed in Polk as the next guy, but give me a freaking break.

So its not WINNING that Makes MSU special, its the fan support. MSU had great fan support when I was in school back in the 70's. Which is why Palmero and Clark came.
Hell Georgia has 5 appearances, which is closer to MSU than MSU is to LSU.

Some of you folks need to figure out that Polk rode MSU to whatever legacy he has, not the other way around.

Polk just happend to be a long term coach at a program with great financial and fan support (compared to other baseball programs)...hell if anything Polk has let MSU lose its lead in fan support and facilites by fielding underperforming teams for the last 15 years.

You've got me, Polk had zero to do with what happened at state. It was all about people in the crowd. How could I have been so blind?

Thanks for reminding me why people never respond to you, it is because you are dumb.

...but sounded like Ron Polk was doing some serious crawfishing after he realized he united the entire MSU fan base against him.

and my first thought is that every program listed has greater resources than MSU. Polk's a senile old fart, but there's no denying credit to the man for putting underfunded MSU on the map in college baseball.

You obviously haven't seen the baseball facilities at most of those schools. Fullerton's are pathetic. They didn't even have lights or a tarp when we played an early season tournament out ther during the McMahon era. A friend of mine went to the UM-Arizona St. super regional last year and the Miami regional this year. He said Miami's stadium sucks donkey balls and, while Arizona St.'s is better, it's not up to par with most SEC stadiums. Bottom line is, while most of those schools do have more money than MSU, they sure as hell don't use it to fund baseball.</p>

As an outsider/SC fan, I couldnt agree more. I keep trying to figure out why Polk feels that 5 CWS appearances gives him the key to the Bully Pulpit. Skip Bertman, Augie Garrido...maybe. I am trying to imagine Ray Tanner doing the same thing- his resume is similar (CWS', USA baseball) although obviously fewer years. Quite frankly, part of the reason this is happening is because Polk has been placed on a pedestal by those same fans that truly built the program as this poster asserts. Again, 5 CWS is great--but its Dodge Charger great, not Buick great. Maybe if he had won one of those CWS he would have deserved a Buick. States fan support, facilities, and that big *** stadium that y'all pack out is what makes that job coveted. If Polk doesnt realize MSU baseball is a lot bigger than him, he soon will, as I believe Cohen will take the program to a new level- and quickly.
