Poll: How does Polk react if Raffo is not hired as head coach?

Just curious about your thoughts on the situation. It is going to be very interesting to see how Polk handles it if Greg does not obey his orders.

I am sure I missed an option or two but didn't want the poll to be too long. So, what other actions do you see him taking in the case of a non-Raffo hire?

true he has but i am not sure if he would go through with it again if Raffo is not hired. i would think Raffo had suffered enough through this process at that point.

but who knows... Polk could write a damn book about it.

Anyone that has seen any of the games this year......and Polk has finished 43 of the 49......knows Raffo isn't happening

he may know that raffo isn't happening but that still doesn't mean he isn't going to act an *** when his wishes aren't adhered to. i personally chose option B and I hope it happens that way. i would rather there be no real continuity between this year's program and next. we need a clean break.

I heard from a former player recently that Cohen cooled somewhat when he was told the position was being offered to someone willing to make a "clean break" from the past. Apparently Cohen has misgivings about being this program's Ray Perkins.

Yeah. Because if there's one thing Polk has shown us, it's that he knows when to quit beating a dead horse.

Is there any chance Polk doesn't cause a scene WHEN Raffo is not hired. I'm almost 100% positive that Byrne is going to find someone else for the job. And I'm also pretty confident that Polk will let out a pretty good rant of some sort. Maybe he'll even go so far as to ask the university to take his name off the stadium, so it can just be Dement Stadium.

Judging by the way he's acted so far (like a little child), I'd say that it's much more likely that he does something childish and embarassing than for him to step aside, congratulate the new coach on the hire, and step off into the sunset as a gentleman.

I'm anxious to see how it plays out. I really feel like it's a ticking time bomb waiting to go off once Byrne makes the official announcement.

no question about it. Knowing Polk, he will whine from the time the season ends until the announcement is made in June or July. I don't think Polk will take the name off of the stadium because of his ego. He wants people to remember him no matter what, and his ego takes precedent over Raffo. Look at what's going on right now. He should have stepped aside and let Raffo coach on an interim basis, but he has to pick up his parting gifts and get his ovations despite the fact that he already got them in 1997.

At least Byrne can ask his Dad how to handle firing someone without Polk's approval- a la Mark Johnson. Oh, and another tidbit about Cohen and Byrne- guess who Cohen replaced at UK? Keith Madison, who used to be MSU's pitching coach and is also a Polk protege. There are a lot of things going on here.

if the son of a ***** holds a press conference over the non-raffo hire I am going to be pissed. if he writes a new manifesto geared specifically to kill byrne in the eyes of the cigar boys and more prominent, contributing alumni I am going to be pissed (especially if it works). if he does anything at all i hope it is only a parting comment to a reporter.

the thing that makes me the angriest about all of this is that it has pitted a bunch of bulldogs against each other. raffo may not deserve the available job (or at least that point is debatable for some) but he clearly does not deserve the situation that polk has put him in. it is one thing to vouch for someone and try to help them get a promotion. it is another all together to force the issue.

Anything he says would be through another reporter or someone like Gene.

Ultimately, it will have the same effect as bitching to the NCAA. So, let him ***** away. As long as we're winning, I don't really care what he does.

to him personally. If Raffo is not hired, he wants his name removed from the stadium and he will sell his real estate and move to Arizona. From his own mouth.

i hadn't even thought of him taking the name off of the stadium. i figured his ego wouldn't allow that to happen. he may be saying it but i will be a doubting thomas at this point and will believe it when i see it.

But I agree with others that while Polk may threaten to ask that his name be removed from the stadium, his ego won't let him follow through with it.

I appreciate everything Ron Polk has done for MSU and college baseball. However, if he wants to put himself above the proram then he can take his name off the stadium, pack up his toys and move to Madagascar for all I care. MSU baseball was around and successful before Polk stepped foot on campus and it will be around and successful long after Polk is gone. Nobody is bigger than the University. Ron Polk served the University and served it well, but now that he is leaving he can go jump a stump for all I care.

I think his big problem with a clean break is the next coach and A.D. will see how crapola he has let the program get. Only bringing players in through the camps instead of recruiting. Doing a lazy job and trying to convince everyone otherwise is his main goal now I think.

we don't have to drape green tarps for batter sightlines. If by chance I am not allowed to fund center field wall enlargement, I will hire 4 students that are sixpack posters and generously overpay them to paint the stadium end of the new academic complex green.
