As the "portal" becomes more and more important in assembling a college football team, will player evaluation and recruitment (if that's the proper term for the portal) be handled in the same way and by the same people who have handled traditional recruiting ? Will there be a portal combine (see the NFL combine), tryouts, agents etc etc ? I have a feeling this thing is going to take on a life of it's own as the years go by .

I don't think so. Main thing they need to do is define when you can go into it, and there's a couple of ways you do it. I'd like to see them have an August 1 signing day, and a February 1 signing day, for everyone, high school/JUCO/transfers/etc. Both have like a 2 week open period or something like that. Then you have a portal open window in like December and June, same thing, about 2 weeks, where you can enter it. That gives you chances to have a talk with your coach after the season, and after spring practice, blah blah, then decide to go into it.

NIL is what needs to be tamped way down, and what is getting out of control.
