is TE. I watched the Auburn replay on State's TV station last night. Sherrod and Butler played like extra pulling guards and we're going to miss that in a big way.

Green may prove to be a threat with the ball but I have to wonder whether either he or Hurst can block like Sherrod. Brandon Henderson seems to have disappeared. And what happened to Jeremy Jones. I must have missed that he quit the team.

about Brandon Henderson. I'm afraid we may be very weak at that position until mid-year at least, but more than likely all year. I think Hurst has the potential but he needs a year.

....was one of those buddy scholarships that Croom hands out like candy. He knows his daddy, so the kid got a scholarship when no one else even looked at him.

...run blocking, getting off the line for routes and pass catching.

Everything else should be fine.

that Croom knowing Henderson's father played a role in giving the kid a scholarship. He also knew Jonathan Lowe's daddy, but you could make the argument that Lowe was worth it. Is there anybody else?

which may be a good thing, because Hurst's little brother is a beast of an OL, getting offers from ND and others - see article on BDJ.

Run blocking is, without a doubt, my biggest concern on this team. I think we will find some good DE's. I think our pass blocking will be sufficient. Our WR's will be no worse than last year.

But, run-blocking is a concern. I hope that Brignone makes a difference here, because I think he will be more of a road-grader than Anderson was. Sherrod will be fine. Strauder is overrated (especially in the run game) and I really dont know Gates' strengths, but I sincerely doubt that it is pulling. Losing Butler and Dez. Sherrod will be hurt our blocking big time. Kind of makes me wish that we had Addison Lawrence at TE - it is not like the other teams are going to be gameplanning against the receiving threats of Henderson/Green/Hurst anyway. Might as well put a Reggie Kelly type in there and run 6 OL's.

That is exactly who I was thinking of, even as I typed Reggie Kelly. Oh well - Reggie was a hell of a blocker too - but this is what you call a run-blocker...

is used as a tight end in two tight sets. Or at least I noticed that at the last scrimmage.

to "grow" Addison into a guard, but I always wondered why he wouldn't be a TE? Maybe he can't catch or isn't that fast.

....is that even if they could catch the ball, we'd never get the ball to our TEs. It's a tradition.

As for lack of run blocking, that would be a problem.

"We got Addison Lawrence playing some tackle and he is also out tight end in our short-yardage package. Then we put him in there today at guard and he is smart enough to do that. Having a swing guy like that gives us some depth."
