Hoping both these dudes come back. Love both of their games. We need these guys. Any word on them?

I would like both to stay. However, if I had to guess

Isaacs- go
Jacobs - stay.

No data to back this up. Just a guess.

That said, the DE room is pretty well stacked. Gotta figure getting a full year in the weight room for DDS will be a big benefit. I can see Chop Robinson taking one of the starting DE positions next year.

I saw one site predicted Jacobs at the 270th pick (free agent) but he wouldn't be the first kid to take a chance on money now instead of build his resule.

Both stay. No reason to bolt as both will improve their slots with another year with Manny.

I’m curious about the effect of NIL money on these decisions. Maybe @RyanSnyder can shed some light. In the past the decision would be zero money versus NFL minimum or slightly more. With NIL money life, at least financially, is a little easier for these kids making staying not as much of a financial burden.

I think the NFL minimum is 700k. I think there is a lot of misinformation about NIL money for the vast majority of college players.

I think both will be coming back.

However, it's tough to really know the details on anything NIL related. Those guys are probably making somewhere around 50-100k currently, if I had to guess. That includes the 20k cost of living stipend that players have always gotten.

So, they're making money, but it's nothing like the NFL.

"$20k cost of living stipend?" Really?

Ryan, can you please explain the $20K cost of living stipend regarding how long it’s been in place and where the money comes from? Thank.

I was surprised by this one also. I remember maybe 5 years ago when Franklin talked about Penn State having one of the larger gaps between tuition & room and board and actual cost of living. The stipend was allowed to fill that, but it certainly wasn't $20K at the time.

It was $4,788, a number straight from the Financial Aid Office used by all students for FAFSA filing. That's what the NCAA decided to use and PSU was stuck on that number until recently. Don't know if it was changed.

After Alston was decided, NCAA came up with an "academic bonus" (don't ask me what the qualifications are. I thinks schools are allowed to simply make them up) of $5,980. Early in 2022, PSU, like most schools, was undecided whether to pay it (at one point only Wisconsin had decided to do it).

Add the two numbers and it's still a long way from $20k.

Hell, maybe PSU has been paying players all along and we didn't know it. Three cheers if they did!

They both need another year. But It seems a lot of players are getting bad advice more than ever and end up not getting drafted, or late round picks and cut in training camp.

I agree both could use the extra time with Coach Diaz.....but i do not know family situations....my family was not wealthy so i started working young....i will never be critical of a player wanting to help his family. The big question is WILL leaving early be losing out in the end?
