…is now 1-9 in bowl games. Worse: 0-10 ATS

ACC commissioner James Phillips announced the the conference is strongly considering a move to a new name: NCC

This will acknowledge a shift from the current name of the “Almost Competitive Conference” to the “NOT Competitive Conference”

Unconfirmed reports have some bowls holding back the payday to the ACC teams. One source, who requested anonymity. stated: “A team has to actually show up to be paid. Rules are rules.”

Got to be miserable for Clemson and Florida State (and maybe a few others). Just grinding this thing out every year until they can get close enough to the GoR end that the lawyers can make a BS case to get them out. Definitely has to feel like you're stuck.

I still don't know why SMU went with them instead of the Big 12, but hey, it got them a playoff appearance. And that means status, no matter how they ultimately did in the game. I bet they reconsider eventually, as does Cal and Stanford.

It's a weird position, because I don't really know how viable a 20-team superconference really is. It messes up scheduling, and who knows if the money is really there. Perhaps the ACC survives if a few reconsider? Either way, we're a few years from it mattering.

They will just have a harder path to the playoff if they leave. They're getting less TV money for sure, but SMU is already set the precedent of forgoing TV money to join a conference, I don't see the Big10/SEC letting new teams in with an equal share of revenue. For now they are probably better off staying. Who knows what will happen five years from now.

Whatever will happen is whatever the networks want to happen. It's all about what they think will be the most lucrative for broadcasting rights

It’s hard to be sympathetic, also. Both Clempsonhave had success, were relevant, and squandered it away rather quickly.

If their thought was to jump to the SEC, that was a serious miscalculation.

If had to bet on one of the two to return to their glory years, F$U would be my pick to win that race.

The money comes from the networks. Big network contracts are what the SEC and B10 are after. That's why they play the game. That is why the conferences are getting bigger. The networks want to combine all the top teams in viewership into 2 conferences and then they will be willing to give them bigger contracts and the other conferences get peanuts. ABC, CBS, ESPN etc are moving the chess pieces cause that's where the green comes from.
