...at this point, I'm ready for him to just quietly slide away.

Edit: And in addition, we all know he wouldn't answer any of the juicy questions anyway. For the next 21 days, he's AD in title only.

I doubt he would give a juicy answer but would be interesting to hear.

<div> I'd like to know exactly what LT had promised Polk all these years in regards to Raffo.

Thank goodness that moron is no longer the AD. </div>

get at the nature of Polk's expectations to name the next coach, whether LT or the University encouraged Polk to believe that was his right, whether he knew Polk felt that way, whether he did anything to dissuade or persuade Polk to think that way, etc.

"What do you think of the national coaching search that took place for our newly hired baseball coach?"

I would like to see if he would take the high road. The question is ambiguous enough to imply that you might be trying to see how his opinion compares to Polk's opinion on the hire/search, but it isn't so specific that you corner him to answer directly to Polk's actions. I have no clue how he would respond.

The man has never once said he was lead to believe anything by anybody about being able to name his successor. He's burned a lot of bridges, even if he publicly apologizes today for what he said. We have to totally disassociate him from MSU. Otherwise, even if he does apologize, Byrne, Cohen, etc. would always have to watch their back because they'd never know when Polk might go off the deep end again and sabotage them.

behavior. I think he is nuts. I do think there is a possibility he has believed this was going to be his privelege. Whether he was told that, promised that, or was simply allowed to think that would be inexcusable, and just another example of mismanagment of our athletic department.

Whatever cued it, I believe Polk knew that he wasn't going to get that privelege upon his resignation. He was defensive about it from the start.

I guess I would just prefer to expose this issue. Even if he were promised the privelege of naming the next coach, led to believe that, or whatever, his communication on this issue has been inexcusable.

that there's no indication was ever made. Don't you think that if Polk had been promised the right to name his successor, he'd have at least mentioned it in his tirade? To me, the issue appears to be completely exposed. Polk decided that he was going to name his successor and had a meltdown when the school didn't fall in line. It's that simple.

1. He doesn't want to throw Larry under the bus for making that promise.
2. There was no promise made, but Larry knew Polk thought this way and did nothing to let him know this wasn't going to be the case.

Edited to say: And the premise here is about what questions you would ask LT. Why not ask the question rather than making a presumption?

....I listened to the broadcast of Polk's last game against Arkansas, and Larry spent a good bit of time in the booth with Jim. He said something to the effect of "I hope our fans don't misunderstand Ron. He's an emotional guy, but when it's all said and done, he's a bulldog through and through, and he will be a part of our program."

Well, Lar, not so much.

Polk's words can't be defended, so I bet Larry would "No comment" his way out of every interview rather than criticize Ron, which is understandable at this point.
