Yes, Every pitch. I didn't notice it last year, perhaps because he was out of the pen... But it's an every pitch thing. It's somewhat annoying, but I don't care as long as he wins.

That's because he didn't do that thing until this year. It's a timing mechanism he developed this off-season.

As a Cubs fan and seeing how he's pitched this year as a starter, I hope he continues to flip his glove.

I'll bet that it has a side effect of distracting hitters as well. I'll bet that it's tougher to pick up and read pitches off him now simply because of the glove flip thing. But yes, it's a new thing this year, and he does it every pitch.

I know that you might want to do something for luck or rhythm but geeze not 20 different things.

I have always wondered that myself. It seems like it would. I remember a pitcher from Madison that now pitches for the Marlins I believe named Taylor something... He had this weird kick that completely threw off the timing of hitters in high school. So, I'm sure little things like that do matter.

Yea, Dontrelle Willis's leg kick and Hideo Nomo's odd wind up had a distracting effect on hitters. I'm sure that any little thing like that can throw off timing for hitters. Obviously, with Dontrelle and Nomo, the players adjusted, but I'll bet that Dempster's glove flip is having some sort of positive effect for him with hitters as well.

Timing mechanism? More like a habit.

At any rate, you gotta do whatever works.

It's definitely a timing mechanism considering that he didn't do it until this year. Not sure whether he decided to do it, or whether someone suggested he do something like that, but it was something he just added this year to help with his rhythm to the plate.
