Did anyone else notice Cohen, when talking about Jay Powell, say something along the lines of, "Our new," before quickly changing the subject.

Did he almost let something slip? Could Jay Powell be the next director of baseball operations, or did I completely misinterpret things.

It was pretty obvious. I wouldn't be surprised to see him having a part on the new staff. Jay is currently head coach at Jackson Academy.

I must have missed that. Powell is the head coach at JA. Its a good job, but I could easily see him leaving for MSU. I second the comment on the wife.

And I can easily see my dog getting up off the deck to come eat a biscuit.

Seriously.. it's as though you feel a move from coaching at JA to the SEC is nearly lateral.

...private schoolers, sheesh.

He is a GREAT guy with a wife who is SMOKING!!! 3 great kids. And has continually helped the MSU cause. I can't think of a better candidate for PC. Let's not forget that he went to the World Series....and Won.

Did I say that his wife is Hot? Uh, its hard talking to him and keep my eyes ... uh , you know, uh, focused on Jay.

"the house".....the dream house they built, that is.

I am not ruling out some type of assistance. But, it would be a significant expense for him to replicate his Madison residence in Starkville.

Iiiiiiiii don't know....... I got a guy on the other line about some white walls. I'll talk to ya later!

I understand if there are special circumstances, like you're near family, just coaching to pass the time between tee times or Candice is living in her dream house... but let's not act like under normal circumstances that somebody coaching high school... even one so special as to be located on Lakeland or Ridgewood... would even think twice about moving up to major college level.

to Jay Powell. (and his gorgeous wife Candace.) He came out weeks ago and said that MSU owed it to itself to open a nationwide search. That we deserved the best coach available. Seems to me that he jumped that creek a long time ago in UniCoach's eyes.

You have to figure, getting out of college going to the pro's, and seeing the big wide world..... it's just not about hiring the best buddy of the Big Buddy. Sometimes life and sports business is just not pretty. Life is just not like that. And I think that is something that was lost with UniCoach.

I pointed that out when the article was written in the Clarion-Ledger and I gave him a big thanks. It was good to get that endorsement for a search from a former Bulldog great. If he wants a position on Cohen's staff, he desrves it.</p>

I think that Powell would be a great choice as the pitching coach at MSU, and then you add in a guy like Burroughs who knows Mississippi and how to recruit. Then maybe add a dear friend in Raffo as the director of baseball operations. That would make most everyone happy except for Polk, who is beyond repair at this point.

We get a pitching coach with a LOT of big league experience, and some coaching experience, even though it's high school, his Big League credentials and the fact that I'm sure he has made some connections with high school coaches in the state make him an attractive choice. I still hope we consider Melvin at Virginia, but I would not complain at all about Powell.

Burroughs is a guy who knows Mississippi well and was a great recruiter at USM and knows the JUCO coaches in the State. He and Cohen would make a great tandem as hitting coaches.

Raffo could manage the Diamond Girls, run the baseball camp, the foster parent program, stadium operations, and other misc. tasks.

Then we could bring in someone like Justin Pigott as a student assistant.

move up from JA to MSU, IF (and this is the hitch) he were looking at coaching as a career into which he wants to pour all his energy.
