I have a friend in Florida who is desperate to bet on college football games. But he doesn’t know how to go about doing it. Apparently it’s not been easy to gamble on college football in Fla (?). Can’t go to the Seminole casinos or do online. Pokerstars app uses geocodung to track where you are.

He wanted me to help him for some reason but I don’t gamble.

Any ideas how he can gamble on these games?

He does not know any bookies.

He should find a good friend in a gambling legal state to open an account for him and place bets for him in that state.

His best bet is to look at offshore books. Tons of options, though some are reputable and some are scams. There are the old standbys like Bookmaker, something that has tons of options like Betanysports, somewhere with good deposit bonuses like AmericasBookie or HRWager, somewhere that's a mix of those like Skybook, etc. Have him do some research on his options, and read some reviews on what people are saying about them.

Yeah I think that’s what he was hoping I would do for him. I have no interest in getting involved with that.

Not really a good idea when you get into tax implications and whatnot (if he has any chance of winning, which is honestly unlikely if he can't figure out how to place a bet).
A person can have tax implications if they choose too no matter how they decide to wager.

I do it for a Buddy of mine. Talking about not large dollar amount. I just run his action through my account and he keeps a running tab. If you open an account they often guarantee your first bet for 600 or a grand. I would try to pick a game you really like and bet the max. Try to get where you are playing with house money.

When you're getting sent a 1099 form and your friend's winning are being reported under your SSN, the choice is unfortunately being made for you. It's not like he'd just be placing bets offshore or with a local and it's on the "honor system" to report the winnings.

So your Buddy pays the tax. Where is the problem here?

Every time someone buys a lottery ticket they are assuming tax liability. Earnings from a casino in my state for a 1099 I think are 1200$. If a person wants to throw more serious money around they aren't too worried about tax.

Does anyone really want their friends involved in their taxes? Those winnings could impact if you’re taking standard or itemized deductions, and the amount you’re actually paying on them would depend on your tax bracket.

Anyone that’s doing this seriously is very aware of the tax implications of all of the plays they are making. That 52.4% heads north when taxes are involved.

So you recommend off shore gambling which also illegal.....give me a freakin break. You can also lose money with offshore accounts if they get busted by the Feds.....which did happen during the Bush administration.

Personally, I go with a healthy mix of all options...some locals, some offshores, and some legal books here in NJ. I never overexpose myself in any one area or at any one book, but there are certainly huge benefits to a reputable offshore book.

Open a brokerage account and trade individual stocks. The odds are a hell of a lot better. 79.9% of my trades for the last 18 months have been profitable. You won’t beat those odds gambling on anything.

Yeah that’s great but that’s not the focus of this thread.

He just wants to bet on college football games. Please pay attention.

It's always a lot easier when you can look back and cherry pick a period where the market is up ~20%. The "odds" don't get the same benefit. Look at the 18 months before it, and I can assure you my gambling did a lot better (hell, it likely did better over the last 18 months).

So your telling me you are profitable on 8 of 10 of your bets ?
