Questions: With “college” football now professional and two super conferences, what’s next?

We have an AFL and NFL coming, it’s clear to see. So what about these questions?

1. Do we eliminate the four year playing eligibility requirement entirely? My opinion is there is no longer any justification for any such rule.

2. Do we see the creation of an NCAA sponsored league structure? My opinion is it would make sense. There will soon be about 100 colleges outside the two super conferences. They have to go somewhere. I might actually watch them over minor league football.

3. Do you regret what will be happening to schools like Baylor, Boston College, Pitt, Syracuse, Kansas, and TCU? These programs have produced legends like Gale Sayers, Tony Dorset, Ernie Davis and Doug Flutie. I know, only us Boomers care about history and tradition.

4. What happens to the Rose Bowl? I guess it becomes the B1G championship game. Winner goes to play the SEC champion crowned in the Sugar Bowl. Both games take place on New Years Day.

5. How do they determine championships? Two 24 team super conferences with 4, 6 team divisions each. Each division sends a champ to the playoffs, two games that determine the Rose Bowl opponents.

6. What happens to the portal? The Portal and the NIL fiction will be kicked to the curb when players unionize. They are replaced in a collective bargaining agreement with free agency. It will be lovely.

if CFB is going to a professional level, then their will have to be some structure to run the league professionally and the teams probably need to separate from the school, so the players just get paychecks. Assume a CBA and the players may not have any academic connection to the school. The school might pay for the football service, but could not get into paying players. That would open up the entire Title IX situation. If all the FB and BB money is outside the school, and the schools pay, there is not enough money left to fund all the low/no revenue sports. I assume they regress to club, so that would get the schools out of the scholarship business. Essentially, all the other sports would look like they did before the schools started athletic scholarships. The minor sports have real students.

One thing I finally learned after many years is I cannot solve other people's problems. This is not my problem and I have no control over what happens with college football. It once was great but now it will be something else so I will sit back and see how it develops.

So T™️osu vs. bama every year.

THE Ohio State might get there almost every year. Bama has to contend with UGA, LSU, Auburn, all of whom have won national championships since 2010

Not hard to imagine Clemson and FSU to the SEC which would throw another monkey wrench in Saban's plan for football domination

You either accept that things change and deal with it or you don’t and find other things to occupy your time.

They’ll still call it “College Football”, but the game I and many others grew up with and enjoyed so much is gone. It was special.

Thanks JoPa for what you did for Penn State!!! I miss you.
