Quick question about the progress of our football team...

First of all, I'd like to say that I've been an avid reader of the sixpack for a long time before finally getting a yuku account. I also want to say that I'm very optimistic about the upcoming season, and see us winning seven or eight games.

Anyway, I was looking at our schedule the other day, and it seems possible that we could be 3 - 1 or even 4 - 0 going into Baton Rouge. Now I'm feeling good about our team, but I don't think we stand a chance against LSU. But if we go to Death Valley and get whipped, let's say 35 or 42 to 0, have we really progressed from last year's 45 - 0 disaster? Or the question is, what probable outcome from that game would show that we've really turned it around? (I say probable because I don't think we'll beat LSU, though that would obviously signal something.)

Oh and I'm sure not throwing 6 picks will probably help too....

Wo! ease back the reigns wooley.

I would be more concerned about La Tech first before going head-first into your no-man's land predictions of 3-1 or 4-0.

I'll save my predictions until after I see what the team looks like post-La Tech.

Either way, I suspect with the way our offense (episode year 5) has stalled even in practice that 2-2 (I hope I am wrong) going into LSU is more likely.

I think we'll do better. Playing them first last year with Henig probably exaggerated the score a good bit... I surely hope we are better than 2 - 2 at that point, but I certainly do see your concerns about our offense.

watch the line surge. In prior years against those teams we have been blown off the ball literally 4 or 5 yards. If we can hold our ground, and I think we will, progress has been made. One thing that Croom has done is work on both lines, and I think we are now competitive in that area.

We can still get blown out (twilight zone games) such as LSU, WV last year, but overall we can compete.

Please don't come on here with any of that 3-1, or 4-0 jazz.

It ain't welcome even if you are just trying to be optimistic.

we ain't winning in Baton Rouge. To me, a victory against LSU is our team leaving without any major injuries. As competitive as I am, I think it's prudent to put our scout team out there against LSU and let our regular players prepare for the next game. I mean, if Major Sosebee gets knocked out for the year by Jean- Lafitte Boudreaux- Thomas, that's more reps for one of our RS Fr. WR's in practice, so big deal. It's not like we're going for the NC anyway, right? If we lose to LSU, does anyone think that the Papajohn's Bowl commitee is going to care on the off chance that we have a good season?

It's going to be moot anyway because we ain't going there at 4-0. Maybe you posted this before it was announced that Pegues is suspended for La Tech. SELU? Remember the Maine? Auburn is no pushover and they're probably pissed because we beat them last year. In case you missed the memo, Tuberville hates our ***. Georgia Tech has an unusual offense, and anytime we play someone with an unusual offense like that, we look like the Special Olympics All-Star team on defense. We won't even figure their offense out until halfway between the third quarter IF Croom is on his game.

I think 1-3 is a very real possibility- with the one being a less than impressive win over SLU. Besides IF we did go into Baton Rouge at 4-0, that might not be all that good for us because:

1. That means it would more likely be a night game.

2. That means that they might actually take us seriously and bring their A game.

As far as judging progress based on the LSU game, well that's not exactly a great barometer for MSU football the 20 years.
