Wow, brings back such memories. RIP. There were some fine people on those Redskins teams, really likable players. Monte Coleman, Green, Monk, Charles Mann, Jim Lachey. Those were good years, really put a spring in my step.

Have an autographed poster of him at the bottom of the stairs to greet people coming into my basement…always my favorite player as a kid. In several fantasy leagues, my team name is No ifs, ands, or Butz. He was always one of John Madden’s favorites.

Really sorry to hear the sad news about Dave Butz. May he RIP. With respect to the hogs on their great Olines. I just loved that play where they pulled the back side guard and tackle and ran the sweep to the other side. They just ran the hell out of that play, and when in their prime nobody could stop it.

They knew how to put games away.

Dave was one of the first super big guys in the NFL. I had lunch w him one time. He really didn’t eat anything. He said he didn’t really eat much but he still stayed big, said that was the way it was his whole life

Ernie Ladd (6’9”) and Buck Buchanan (6’7”) were two big guys, about a decade before Butz. Just saying.

Yes, but Buchanan and Ladd both came a decade before Butz. I wouldn't call Butz one of the first super big players. Ben Davidson was another tall player a decade before Butz. Lamar Lundy. Doug Atkins was 6'8", twenty years older than Butz.

Played against him twice in high school (basketball)…..he went to Maine South in Park Ridge then was a very good collegian player with Purdue before his illustrious NFL career.

Played in a golf outing years ago with several of the Redskins, including Dave Butz. Seeing him in person, up close was amazing. He was HUGE!
Even his pinkie finger was bigger than my thumb.

He was H U G E. And a year behind me, I graduated in 1968 he graduated in 1969.

I went on to KU and Bobby Douglass and John Riggins. I eventually learned how painful taking charges were!
