Sad to hear. I always thought he was a pretty good coach. He brought his USC teams east into PSU for 1993 and 1994 and then to the Kickoff Classic in 1996. Always thought his teams played well.

Always sad when the legends pass. Robinson was a terrific coach, a great coaching hire to follow John McKay at USC. Kept the "Student Body Right or Left" ground game humming.

In other news, Gerry Faust also passed away yesterday. He was in over his head at ND, went to Akron for a while, but was better known as an all-time HS Coach. From all accounts, a wonderful person who truly cared about his players and others and the community at large.

Faust was a great guy by all accounts. Sad to hear about the passing of both.

Yeah, Faust is proof that it’s not completely up to the Jimmies and the Joes. But a fine man, a great representative of Notre Dame.

I have a cousin who was a long-time Professor at ND. He started there just before Faust came in. He said Faust's enthusiasm and faith was truly genuine, and what you saw is what you got with him. He was well liked, just didn't win. ND honored his 5 year contract, gnashing its teeth for about the last 4.5 years.
Then Holtz came in -- just the opposite. Not well liked by those who knew him, but a fan favorite and won big.

Holtz was also allowed to take on academically risky kids that Faust wasn’t allowed to take on. I think the school was sick of losing after Faust.

but those risky kids still had to complete an application for enrollment. Randy Moss didnt/wouldnt do an essay, ND bowed their back on that one and did not admit him.

Moss originally signed with Notre Dame, which withdrew its scholarship offer after the stomping incident, saying Moss had improperly filled out his scholarship application.

Robinson sure loved having a great tailback: Charles White, Marcus Allen, Eric Dickerson.

I, one time, saw Faust years after he had been fired, walking around Rockne Stadium before a game, shaking hands with people. He truly loved Notre Dame. Great ambassador for ND but he was in over his head as head coach there.
