He didn't come off like a super-great guy to be around in the HBO docuseries about the Lakers... but he was one of the greatest players of his (or any) generation for sure. RIP.

I learned recently that this line was adlibbed by Carey, and those dudes weren't extras. Just some randos hanging outside their local gas station.

Back to the OP, I honestly thought he'd left us long ago. So, to me, 86 is surprisingly young.

PS I think it was called Showtime, but whatever it was - very entertaining.

I really liked that show & his character especially. I've read his depiction is not 100% accurate, but preeeeety accurate.

i loved that series... i was born a little too late to really get into it back in the day so it was cool to watch and learn things i never would have known... i loved that series... i was born a little too late to really get into it back in the day so it was cool to watch and learn things i never would have known... Jerry West was by far my most favorite character... oh yeah, HBO,MAX whatever you want to call it are a$$holes for canceling it before the last season...
