Man, you're talking about a low pressure job. Kessinger won 20 games last year for them, and they wanted him back.
Maybe Kessinger figured that he would try to save them the trouble of firing him, and he resigned, only to find out that they were going to give him an extension.
In some ways this is a good job, and in others it's not. Again, there's low pressure, I think their biggest crowd ever was 1,000 and change. That's good in that there is maybe an opportunity to build something there, obviously he will get all the time he needs as the AD seems to have low expectations of the program, and the alumni apparently don't care either.
It's going to be hard to recruit there. There isn't a whole lot of population in that part of the country, and pretty much all of the really good players are going to Fayetteville. I did notice that they had a few players from Memphis and a few from St. Louis. I'm sure that he is really going to have to sell the program to the community, and that's where his connections to Polk may help him out.
All in all, this is a good first job for two reasons- if he does well and wins there, he can maybe get an SEC job down the line, and on the other hand, if he sucks, no one there will care, and he can probably just stay there for as long as he would like. Seems like a win/win for him.
