.....and Kelly kinda lowering/maintaining LSU as well. Yeah Kelly is playing in the SEC, and yeah Notre Dame's schedule is now markedly easier than the old days, and yeah Penn State will beat them (and if not, Ohio State will soundly beat them), and yeah Kelly had a bunch of good years. But I figured he was just another young coordinator who wasn't ready to be a head coach, and ND made an emotional decision. But damn, they look well coached, especially the defense. At minimum, I'm not seeing some huge dropoff.

He's going to need to fix the offense eventually and get better skill/speed, won't be able to get a Riley Leonard every year to just carry you. Or maybe he will?

I do likely see a bigger chance LSU contends for the next few playoffs, than Notre Dame continuing to contend. Impressive nonetheless.

Freeman> Kelly by a mile and lots of people thought that was a great hire. Freeman is highly thought of.

Slow up, scooter.

Kelly was 10-2 (regular seasons), 9-1, and 11-1, with a playoff appearance, in the 3 years leading up to Freeman's 3 years. Freeman did stagger a little there at times.

I've never been a big fan of Brian Kelly. In fact I thought Sun Belt Billy was a better choice. That thought looked foolish initially, but now...?

I think Freeman will thrive in the new playoff era where one inexplicable loss doesn’t eliminate you from a spot.

He’s had weird losses in 2 of his 3 seasons (Marshall, NIU), but he’s a good coach.
