It's clear we plan to redshirt Sellers.

With Rattler getting beat up and increasing his NFL stock, does it make sense for Beamer and Rattler to sit down and agree for Sellers to take over full-time 3 outinjury. Ladt 4 games?

I think this may be a win-win. Preserve the redshirt and getting us ready for the future. In addition, it protects Rattler from injuy.

Rattler wants to play and he gives us our best chance to win, so I don't see that happening.
I don't disagree on Rattler giving us the best chance to win. There is no way Rattler is going to publicly admit he is ok sitting. That's not what NFL teams want to hear. If Beamer publicly says he's making the decision to sit Rattler to get Sellers ready for next year, I think everyone gets it. Once we have no chance for a bowl (which will be soon), get Sellers ready.

Sellers has played in at least one game, Furman. So he's down to 3 games he can play in.

I think, as long as bowl eligibility is in question, rattler plays.

Agreed but do you have an opinion one way or the other once we are not bowl eligible?

I like the idea of sellers getting more time. We will need him to hit the ground running next year.

BUT

Rattler will have to be forced to sit, because the NFL won't like him taking games off for lr no injury, imo.

Of course, as I say that, taking off bowls hasn't bothered scouts.

I like the idea of getting Sellers playing time. But Rattler is clearly the leader of the pack and not a player that needs to be benched. Let him be enjoy his days playing college ball!

I can’t wait to see Sellers next season though. He is going to have to hit the ground running.

Best case scenario for this team would be to make a ****** bowl game and have Rattler decide to opt out. That would give Sellers the sole practice time and real game experience against a decent team.

If we are going to have a chance to beat Clemson we need the one player that produced every game this year. That Clemson game is all that will help ease this crap show of a season

Ad long as bowl eligibility remains mathematically possible, that won’t happen.

Read my original post. I said three of the last four for this reason.

This will never happen. It is borderline insane for a plethora of reasons.

Rattler has played his heart out but I think the first round pick talk might be a little optimistic. He is the best player on the gamecock offense by far but there is some "tallest pygmy in the jungle" going on in that take. Rattler has 12 td passes and 5 ints so far and is completing 69% of his passes for 2117 yds. Those numbers aren't bad but they aren't exactly first round numbers.

By comparison, Beck at Georgia, who is not being touted by anyone as a first round qb has 14 tds and 4 ints, has completed 73% of his passes and has 2462 yds. Mertz at UF has 14 tds and 2 ints, has completed 76% of his passes and has 2127 yds. Rattler really doesn't stand out in any way statistically and has guided the gamecocks to exactly 2 wins this season. Caleb Williams has 25 tds and 4 ints.

I see no reason to worry about saving Sellers. What is the worst that could happen?

So, we are going to screw Rattler even though he done nothing wrong and is the best absolute option at QB to win games. Good luck EVER getting another portal player that is good to come to USC after that move. Also meanwhile burning Lanorris redshirt and taking an extra year of eligibility from him. Great plan.

If we lose another game I can see it. Bowl eligibility is off the table, so we have nothing to play for this season. All you risk is Rattler getting injured and damaging his draft prospects. That would leave us with 3 games and Sellers can still play in 3 more without burning his redshirt, so we lose nothing by doing and he gains tons of experience for next year. It's not benching Rattler at all but at that point, you have to realize this season is lost and it's time to being preparing for the future. For us that means getting Sellers ready for next year. For Rattler, that means staying healthy for the NFL.

In all likelihood, Rattler would still start, but I suspect we'd get healthy dose of Sellers as well.

Who knows about the projections. Last I saw had him late first or early 2nd. He's shown scouts a ton this year. There's no throw he can't make. His completion percentage in light of his pressure rate is incredible.

I might could see it if it doesn't burn a redshirt, but it wouldn't make sense burning a redshirt over it. Also, I think it would be best if it was Rattler's decision. No portal player is going to want to come here if we are benching seniors who's trying to raise draft stock.

Yeah, I'm sure it wouldn't be a benching, and I think most would understand the circumstances. Like I said, I could see Rattler starting and playing a series or two and then Sellers going the rest of the way. Given our roster situation, I don't think there's much Rattler can do to boost his stock at this point. He's shown the scouts a ton this season. There's no throw he can't make.

Ok so you believe that 3 games of a lost season are worth more than an extra year of eligibility?

Agreed. You would be doing Rattler a favor. All Beamer would have to say is, "we are sitting Rattler to protect him from injury and allow him to start prepping for his NFL career". Win - win. Of course Rattler would need to be in board. No reason for him not to get on board.

How would this hurt future recruiting/transfer portal? By looking out for the future of your star QB?

Right. On the flip side, you continuing running out your senior QB for pointless snaps and he tears up a knee on a sack, is unable to participate in the combine, drops to a late round pick, loses millions...how does that look to recruits?

The idea that there's nothing left to play for. That's a terrible tone to set from someone who is trying to push these guys to go 100% to the final whistle. Did you guys ever actually play sports?? I don't care if we're 0-11 and have lost every game by 30, the players that give us the best chance to compete in that 12th came are going to play. He's got Seniors on that team that will never play another snap of football. He's spent years pushing them. All to throw his hands up and say "season's done boys, ya'll can rest". Nah, if he ever did that I would hope RT would fire him immediately. You want to talk about destroying a locker room. Let that happen and grab a popcorn bucket.

And to take it a step further, if Ratt came to him with that idea, I would hope he would tell him not to bother showing up anymore b/c he's not on the team.

NO. Rattler is a competitor and that's quitter's mentality. If we were to make a bowl game and he sits out, fine, but quitting on the season. give me a break.

I think we've learned enough from Rattler to know he would never be the one to suggest it. As I said above, I think the most logical approach would be to start Rattler and have him play a few series then turn it over to Sellers.

I don't think anyone said there's nothing left to play for, unless I missed it. There is a lot to play for: the future.

He came here to play for a team. Not just to prep for the NFL. That was William P Muschamp BS. I don't want that kind of culture around here. We tried that, and it was a miserable failure.

You are making things up. I never suggested he quit. I suggested Beamer look out for the best interest of our team moving forward and Rattler's best NFL interest.
