Ray this will be the most important hire in baseball since you yourself were brought in back in 1996

If you value what you built here over your 16 years in that dugout, please don't screw this up!

But only the 3rd most important hire he makes. If Beamer turns things around and Paris keeps things going, the baseball hire won't really matter.

The baseball hire matters no matter how the other two play out. Perhaps to not as many fans, but Carolina baseball is still a big deal.
It doesn't matter in terms of his job security. If football and basketball are good, it wouldn't matter for his job security if baseball never won another game. Of course there are fans who care about baseball, but if we're winning in the 2 revenue sports that's all that that matters for his security.

Those two sports I'm sorry but are not capable of winning championships(women's basketball obviously excluded from that assessment) Baseball however has proven they are capable of not only going to Omaha but winning it all. That fact alone makes it more important.

I didn't say they were, and they don't need to be from the perspective of Ray's job security. If we somehow fielded a football team that makes bowl games and a basketball team that makes the NCAAT, Ray is secure.

Not gonna argue with you on Ray's job security if football and basketball are successful, that's understood. My point is that we can all acknowledge that once upon a time not too long ago, this baseball program was something so special that it was the envy of just about every other baseball program in the country. How many baseball programs have won at least 2 national titles? There's a list but it's not that long, there have been many more who have been to Omaha and never won(Tennessee and Florida St.) Clemson is another who has never won it all(we had something to do with that twice😁).

This baseball program has proven what it brings to the athletic department(it really put us on the map even before Dawn got the women's basketball program rolling) and it should be supported as such by the athletic department, they need to put some money into this program get a proven winner in here and get this thing turned around.

Monte Lee is not the answer. Has to be a home run hire.
If Wake Forest or ECU coach will say yes, get either one. I like the Duke coach, but don't think he would come. Skylar Meade might be further down the list, but I would take a chance on him before Monte. Monte is a good assistant but did not succeed at Clemson.

Gotta get someone in to talk to players before they leave. I could see Petry going to Georgia.

A reminder that we have a basketball team that won the national title and went undefeated this year.

I doubt Ray would be as successful in the dugout this time around were he to do such a thing.
Why, though?
I hadn't thought much about it.
The process would be hilarious to me, as AD hiring himself.
Connie Mack retired at age 87...

Pretty sure Ray is secure regardless. He had made his last hires in basketball and football. Next AD will make any decisions on those two spots. Baseball and golf will probably be his last hires. Ray will finish the improvements to W-B and get those improvements that he's been wanting to make to Founder's done. Then at the end of June 2026, he will retire and go back to running his Foundation, which he loves.
