Interesting. All good ideas that would be an improvement. I think the best answer is this though.

A more radical suggestion (made often on social media) would be to move up the first round to the week of the Army-Navy game, play the quarterfinals in mid-December, and restore the semifinals to their previous New Year’s adjacent date.
