Looks like the blew most of their load in a short time and the rest was just dribble.

Just drove by FLL ... still at least 12 inches of water on the north runways and taxiways. Literally looks like a gigantic lake. Can't see land anywhere. Cargo planes on the tarmac have stairs that go down into deep water. South side runways look better and look to be drying. Not sure they are going to make the 5am opening tomorrow morning.

'ro', it's been a long time since I dabbled in hydrology & storm water design, but if I recall, 8 to 10 inches of rain fall in a 24 hr period would be equivalent to a 100 yr storm (1% chance of happening in a given yr).
Three times the rain fall depth in these reports, have to seriously reevaluate the storm water design and hydrology methods.

Yes, I agree. And I have barely dabbled in it at all, but listen as my colleagues who engineer storm water conveyance systems discuss these issues.
They need to design for a more serious threat, or everyone needs to figure out which 2 animals they like the best to bring with them.

I was in Chicago the time they had 24 in. in 24 h. My wife's car got flooded in the hotel lot and we had to tow it home (same night the TWA plane blew up).

FLL just is opening at 9am... what a mess. Still a bunch of water there but finally drying out. People have been stranded a long time. Airlines that had planes in the air and put planes down in Jacksonville when the airport closed actually bused people from Jville to FLL yesterday finally. After giving them a $12 lunch voucher. o_O

Flew out of FLL this morning. Everything was running smoothly. We spent a great week at sea on Celebrity Apex.

Don’t worry I’m sure the news will be reporting a drought soon enough and the end of the world.
