...I don't know if I buy it completely. I wouldn't be shocked if he changed his mind in time for next season. I say this because of the reason he gave for retirement. I don't really recall a player deciding to retire because of being "mentally" tired.

I wanted to find quotes from the retirement speeches of other quarterbacks but most don't give detailed reasons. Montana was pretty upbeat during his. Marino didn't mention his physical ability (from the quotes I was able to find). I couldn't even find quotes from Bradshaw's retirement speech. Aikman's reasoning was clear enough, as was Young's.

I find the "mentally" tired reason odd.
