Saddawg is exactly right. Jack may not be perfect in every sylable, but he has something more important and something that can't be taught or bought: he has a unique style that sets MSU sports apart from any other school. I wouldn't trade it for anything. If you think that what Jack and Jack alone has is something we'll be able to easily find elsewhere, then I am basically speechless because I don't want to offend whatever there is of your "intelligence."

This constant theme that his skills have "slipped" is total garbage. I think he's still great. Sorry, new agers, but Jack ain't replacable. The fact that we'll inevitably lose him is an approaching tragedy, but MSU would be King Lear to try and speed the horrible process.

Sorry for starting a new thread, but the other seems too long.

with the caveat that I am not up to speed on my King Lear. But you're exactly right about how Jack's not replaceable. MUCH MUCH more so than Polk to me.

We hang with Jack till the end. And I mean the end. The fact that he mispeaks, mispronounces, and slurs make it that much better to me. I grew up with him too and the best of Jack is yet to come.

To listen to all of you dipsh&T$, you would think that J.C. hung the moon. He's a damn radio announcer for a freakin' losing program(up until last year, and I'm strickly talkin' football cause it's the money sport) He's boringly called about a gazillion games. Let it go. We hired Cohen! Learn from what GB wants to do. The SEC is big money so let's get on board!!

That's the most blasphemous thing I've ever read. I think I need to poke my eyes out. For the record, Jack did hang the moon.

game without Jack adding some "entertainment" to the broadcast ? **** it`s hard enough to sit through that crap in the stadium much less listen to a straight up description on the radio.

If you're making comments like this about Jack, then you're either kidding, or simply an idiot who doesn't get what Jack means to MSU. There is no in between.

few years... out of state now.. but back when I did, I've never heard anybody paint a clearer picture before the snap... he did it every play... you knew the formations of both sides of the ball...

are the pussies on the board complaining about him saying that he no longer can do that?...what's the scoop? I'm sure he's having a few hic ups every now and then due to age, but that wouldn't bother me at all as long as he's still doing that stuff 5 seconds before each snap...

that along with his famous jackism's is all I would need... his voice IS MSU...

Anytime I watch one of our games on TV, I turn off the sound and listen to Jack. No one calls basketball play by play as well as he does. Sure he gets some names wrong, but have you ever listened to the ESPN announcers? Especially Mike Patrick. No one that I talk to wants Jack to retire until they carry him out.

I know there were many earlier games but the first one I remember was the Rocky Felker/ Memphis game. It just won't be the same when Jack does hang it up.

we all need to be honest and admit that, no, Jack isn't as sharp as he used to be and he has become more monotone in his delivery than in years past. If you disagree, get a recording from the 70's or 80's, listen to the complete game, and then do the same for a game from last year. (Choose whichever games you please.)

While I'm not advocating taking away Jack's microphone, the end of his tenure is not on the horizon, or even a few miles down the road. It's about 100 yards away.

Personally, I'd rather Jack not "die at the mike". I'd rather see him step back prior to that so we can conduct some festivities in his honor. He deserves that. I much prefer that over seeing him go on too long... too long to the point that even those who are now defending him are calling for him to be replaced.

I agree that the day is coming, but I don't see it as close as you do. I thought he was damn good last year, although if I put it side by side with a 20 or 30 year old performance, I know it would be different, and maybe he would be better.

My fear is that this "rumor" is actually what the politicians call a "trial baloon". I don't know who GB listens to, but I hope the four or five people that have his ear and respect are not all from the same age and perspective of MSU athletics. There's a lot of money in contemporary media, and cashing in sometimes means that the great are thrown overboard. I hope to hell that ain't what's happening, but I stopped being surprised a long time ago.

My dad didn't follow college sports much, but was a casual Mississippi fan (as a very small child we even had better seats than the Mississippi chancellor for their Liberty Bowl game vs. Virginia Tech but that was just because my dad's Sunday School teacher was the Lt. Governor and gave his tickets to dad). But I had a friend at elementary school who was an MSU fan so I listened to the game that weekend. I don't even remember if I listened to all of the game or not, but I do remember Rockey Felker leading us on a 98-yard drive with less than 2 minutes left to get within 1 and then scoring the 2-point conversion to win it. That drive, and Jack's call, is the reason I'm an MSU fan today. I still get goose bumps thinking about it.

Much like Polk's last few years, I'm hoping he'll politely retire in class before we have to make a scene with giving him the hook.

I listened to the 74 Mempho game for the entire game (sans the last 98 seconds or so). I gave up on the Dawgs that night. Didn't know we'd won until I retrieved the Commercial Appeal the next morning (or maybe someone at church told me, getting foggy in my old age). I also gave up on them in the 83, 99, & 07 Egg Bowls. In 83, still glad I didn't listen to the end. In 99 & 07, I at least listened on my way home. Think we won in 99 by the time I hit the Jewel city limits (don't think we won last year until I got 'bout to Montpelier).

I don't know how I would have made it through the 2003 football season without the Sonic Drive of the Game to Tupelo. THAT was the season highlight.

confuse Polk and his ego with Jack. I have no doubt in my mind that Jack would NEVER do half of what Polk tried to pull.

Who would Jack name as "his successor"? John Correro?
