To be fair, other than Jackie & maybe Bellard, we made a lot of dumbass hires going back to before Mullen was even born.
Yes it's a systemic issue with msu brass and our rich folk boosters. They have never made good hires in football. Until do fogglesong pushed out templeton and brought in a wildcard in Byrne. Then comes back in an alumn in Keenum who hired an alumn in cohen. Cohen leaves and he brings in Selmon as a wildcard card. But I don't think I would have picked from the OU tree.

That's the second time he's been fired in 2024. That's rough
He’ll be fine. This is just a flex from Pierce to try and save his own asś at season’s end.

Raiders easily have the worst offensive personnel in the league. No QB, let their best RB go in free agency, traded their best WR a few weeks ago, and have a bottom 3rd OL. Anything that’s not dead 17ing last in terms of scoring offense or total offense is an overachievement. And they aren’t last in either one. Definitely not a coaching issue there.

I don’t think getting fired by the Raiders is really a hiccup. More like a badge of honor.
Especially if you go back to the days of Al Davis. Hell he would fire somebody and take over for them until he found his next huckleberry. Over the years he was Owner, GM, Head Coach, Asst Coach. He had to be a nightmare to work for because he was more hands on and meddling than Jerry Jones

Unlike Jerry Jones, Al Davis was a football man. He was an assistant and head coach at all levels, including the old AFL.

Until the rules of Free Agency changed and Davis got old, he was the owner every player wanted to play for. Why? He didn't give a **** about what you did off the field....as long as you won you were fine with him Al Davis.jpeg

One hiring I never could understand, was Rocky Felker. I love Rocky, and the ambassador he’s been for Miss State. I also loved watching him play, and running the option. He was/is Mississippi State, but never should have been hired as head coach.

The era was probably the lowest for our athletic dept I can remember. I don’t think we could get anyone else to take the job. But he was woefully unprepared ti be an SEC head coach. A couple of years after that Dick Vitale said our basketball job was the worst job in Div I. We had to hire an assistant from our own bad team if never even hear of named Richard Williams. At least that one worked out.

It's because he was an assistant coach at Alabama under Bear Bryant. Hell every head coach we had for a time either played for or coached under Bryant.

Rickey was hired at Alabama by Ray Perkins the year after Bryant retired & then died.

Anyone else to take the job? You serious? Spurrier was turned down. Charlie Carr didn't know what he was doing.

The worst era was 1966-69. We did not win a SEC game. Think we won 6 gAmes total.
