Was reading Twitter comments on this situation. One guy said he researched the rules and determined that when the catcher put the ball in his pocket, the batter should have been awarded two bases.

The catcher was looking back at the umpire to get a signal and should have seen him give the safe sign. Even then, why not just throw it down to first to make sure and then celebrate. He made a mistake, plain an simple. Everyone knows the rules. I really feel bad for him and his team.

Still the stupidest rule in all of sports but a rule it is. This unfortunate incident just highlights how dumb it is.

That is what the call was. They had runners on 2nd and 3rd that scored. He ended up on second officially (I know he comes around and scores)

The dumbest rule in baseball
Is asking a guy to run 89.5 feet in foul territory to reach a base in fair territory but calling him out if getting where is told to go interferes with the throw.
