Received as information, but probably more in the realm of speculation. This actually originates with some site out of West Virginia.

It still begs the question...which would be better for the SEC? FSU/Clemson or NCSU/VT

People say the SEC may want the NC market...well Carolina does well in the Western NC/Charlotte and around Wilmington. I would say the only market where would not have a big draw would be the Triangle and Greensboro...there's where NCSU and VT would come in. Plus VT would add the Tidewater, Richmond and DC areas. FSU and Clemson does nothing for the SEC in terms of TV market share...

On the UNC sites, it's running about 50/50 for the SEC vs B10...I can't imagine UNC vs. Washington would be a big draw compared to NCSU vs Texas/Bama/UGA/us... For UNC fans wanting to travel to Madison or Minneapolis in the winter time, it's brutal...I know, I've been to Minneapolis in the winter.

Agree. Can see the B1G taking UNC and Virginia and, maybe, GaTech but not Miami....think they would add Oregon and Washington before GaTech or Miami.

Also can't see the SEC conceding the states of North Carolina and Virginia to the B1G and the Big 12....NCSU and VaTech would jump at an SEC offer.

Could also see the Big 12 picking up Clemson and FSU and maybe Miami.

Would guess UNCs and UVAs decision would also have to include the research funds controlled by the BTAA which is around $1B annually.....it may not be solely an athletic decision.

Well, we've been through this exercise before. As far as I'm concerned all of this is hokum until proven otherwise. It's obvious that the SEC is more intent on contiguous growth than the B1G. In that regard, UPC and Florida State could get in. But I still maintain that North Carolina is the most desirable prize of the ACC. UVA, Va. Tech, and N.C State combined do not amount to the cachet of UNC. Wind up with those while UNC goes to the B1G and you have LOST the race.

I’d like to see at least two ACC teams jump over to the SEC if not all three that I list.
Clemson or Florida State. Then NC State.
The SEC would change from a Super Power conference to a MEGA-POWER conference.

FSU option 1 because, it’s FSU historically the best. Clemson is a mid mid carder kind of fizzling out and needs a bump to get going. If NC State plays their cards right, they can break out of their rut and be a dangerous team.

remember though, sec would be a Mega Power.

Exactly. I'm out until something really happens. I mean, the Big 10 is just now hiring a new commissioner, as in this week. Probably hasn't even moved into his office yet. I will say this, though: on the surface, it is a home run hire, a man who was a TV executive and worked with a couple of networks; he knows his way around the wheeling and dealing that will drive expansion when it comes. Sankey might have found his match.

It's even funnier that anyone in the SEC would want to throw FSU and/or CU a lifeline.
Funnier to me that anyone would THINK the SEC would do that. If it ain't about money for all, they won't be doing it.

They don't need lifelines. They'll be fine. And, please take note of @KingWard previous two posts. This is ALL business. Not charity. The SEC is going to bring in teams the strengthen the bottom line for the SEC. That's Clemson and FSU. Not NC State or VA Tech or whoever else.

Grant of rights says hello
ESPN would have to throw a financial lifeline to clemson and FSU. AND ESPN would have to also throw more money to the SEC so as not to financially harm the rest of the conference by taking them in. The Magic Kingdom is not printing cash right now. In fact, they began laying off employees several weeks ago. How feasible is all this? I don't know.

The SEC has never done anything intentionally to "bail out" a school. Altruism ain't got nothing to do with it.
With the size of Clemson's fanbase, it might as well be. They have few die-hards and few alumni. They draw a lot of eyes because they've been good, I think they're primed to be bad and if they don't stay dominant indefinitely then they won't be an asset indefinitely.

If the SEC is getting Oklahoma and Texas what the heck would they need Clemson and FSU for? Screw em.

Schools, not teams. Otherwise, spot on.

If the article in question has any validity (which I. doubt), then the GOR would not be a factor, since all teams would be leaving.
I too question the validity of the article. The West Virginia folks would like nothing better than for that to happen in order to have conference members nearby. And what about Duke, not to mention Wake Forest? Duke is a basketball rival of UNC. Would the North Carolina legislature look kindly on them being homeless?

I will add that if expansion/realignment was to happen, it will happen this summer.

Good branding and rivalries.
They have been the giant in a kiddie pool. The branding the SEC already has is not improved by their presence. Both would immediately step back dramatically with actual competition.
Rivalries? Honestly nobody outside SC really cares about this game. FSU VS UF maybe a little more.
They add no new markets, they add no perennial powers in other sports except CU in men’s soccer

If and this is a very big If, there were serious news about expansion/realignment there would perhaps be an announcement, but no actual movement for at least 18-24 months.
I could be wrong, but I don't expect any seismic movements, a coupe of teams perhaps, but nothing like the writer is suggesting.

Good point....I've always wondered if UNC and Duke were a pact deal wherein if you take one, you must take the other. They have for a long time seemed attached to each other.
