Really, this is common sense, which is a nice change for MSU. Byrne is the one that will sign the new coach's check, and should be the one that has to deal with the consequences should we continue to have seasons like the current one.

Honestly, if Raffo is hired it probably would be because we couldn't find anyone else to take the job. See Cohen discussions ad nauseum.

Now, I will say yes, there is the possibility that we could "MSU this up", but I would be very surprised.

Think about it for a minute. Polk is the reason we are in the mess we're in. Under his own acknowledgement, he stated that he doesn't have the fire he once had. He said that basically he isn't as passionate about recruiting anymore. With him saying that, why would he be given so much say so on who the next coach is? I understand what Polk has done, but ****, he didn't part the red sea and no one player or coach is bigger than the game of baseball and the program. At MSU, they are bigger. WTF?

and I did not get it from dickheads page, it came from a very reliable source, Greg Byrne himself. They will conduct a search and then hire the best person to rebuild the program.

I think you know the answer to that. Because to some people Polk is bigger than MSU baseball. He has basically been allowed to do whatever he pleases. Plus, he has essentially named the last coaches we've had- McMahon and then himself.

Of course, this was with LT in charge, that's the biggest difference, but there is still some uncertainty with LT still running around and no one really knowing what Byrne will do, as this will likely be his first hire of any kind.

Another thing- one way or another, Raffo will probably be an albatross one way or the other during this process. I imagine that he will be retained in some capacity, not necessarily as a coach, but I'm thinking maybe as an administrator of some kind.

Well, the fact that they are at least blowing smoke up my *** is better than just giving me the finger outright.

It also means that they at least acknowledge that they may not have done the best thing last time.

Just the fact we're going to be doing a legitimate national search, and that Byrne is going to lead it, is a sign that Polk has lost a lot of power in the past 7 years.

....and extensive "national" search, Tommy Raffo will be named the next head baseball coach at MSU because...................

"he was the best available candidate after conducting our search," Byrne said.

Personally I think only the naive will believe it.

Since then we have promoted within or LT just dug around in Mal Moore's trashcan.

Stans- in house
McMahon- in house
Polk- might as well be in house
Lee- in house
Croom- Bama trashcan
Byrne - in house
Watson- in house
Raffo??????

Kinda a trend. Don't you think?

he'll keep his mouth shut and let us conduct this search. His Raffo promotion and his insistence on naming his successor divides the fanbase and doesn't help us do what's best for MSU.</p>

who said the same thing. Said Polk won't have as much say-so as he thinks he deserves. Funny, alot of those men know what's going on and probably would fit in well on this board.

Polk told the powers that be several weeks ago that he was resigning...he spent the time between then and his actual resignation attempting to negotiate the ability to name his successor. Apparently, the powers that be told him to go <17> himself.

If we were going to hire Raffo based on Polk's recommendation, we wouldn't be doing a national search. And if Byrne does a national search and Raffo emerges as the best candidate then Byrne should be fired immediately.
