RIP Bob Lanier: NBA and College Basketball HOF'er

One of my all time favorites from back in the day when class and dignity still accounted for something - instead of number of Twitter hits.

Saw him at the regionals hosted at Carolina Coliseum...yes that year when JR was injured and we lost to NC St in the ACC final.

I think he was only 6-7 but was pretty much a 1 man team for St Bonnie and totally dominated the lane.

He was 6’11” with a size 23 shoe!!!! Got to meet him as an 11yo when the regionals were in Columbia. They had two 6’4” forwards who could jump to the moon, Greg Gantt?? and small very talented pg Billy Kelbaugh sp? Lanier tore his ACL in the championship game and they just could not compete wit Jax. in the final four.

Niagara was also in the regional with the marvelous Calvin Murphy!! Their whole warmup was centered around him and his amazing ball handling skills
