Met him once at the Sr PGA Championship down in Palm Beach Gardens FL at PGA National.
Very personable and likable man.

R.I.P. Chi Chi . I remember Chi Chi well. He came up in the era when players were also entertainers, interesting and fun to follow,

I remember him being in candy bar commercials when I was a kid and doing the Zorro sword motion with his golf club.

He was a cool guy. Always great to see professionals having fun playing the sports we love. His story getting started playing was good. He was making a buck a day hauling water on a plantation as a kid to help his family out. He figured out he could make more money caddying at the nearby golf course. He practiced his golf swing with tree branch and hit pieces of garbage in his spare time. Took off from there. Makes sense why he had such a good time playing. How could you not when life nearly took you down the plantation labor route!

Loved Chi-Chi's celebrations after he holed putts!

Golf needs more of that sort of thing.
Yes too many today with zero personality. He had plenty of that. I saw him a few times in B'ham when playing a Senior event. RIP Chi Chi.

The caddie looks like Rollo from Sanford & Son

That's obviously from the days when pros had to use the Augusta National caddies. Kinda amazing that stuffy azz country club allowed an employee to wear a shirt under his coveralls open to his mid chest. White women swooning and passing out everywhere.

Chi Chi (from Puerto Rico) and Lee Trevino (Mexican American) were playing a round together. They walked past some porta-potties and Trevino points to them and says, "Look, Chi Chi! Puerto Rican condos!"

Chi Chi replied, "Yep. We rent out the basements to the Mexicans."
