Penn State, and many of us, lost a dear dear friend earlier this week. Rest in peace JC. You were so loved.

Awww.....dammit! I only had him for one class, but I really appreciated it. He had such an analytical approach to BLog - almost engineering like. Plus, he was the NCAA Faculty rep when I was there.

Will be missed - one of those professors that you always remember.

I majored in Logistics in the 80's, so Coyle had a tremendous impact on my life. He was a fantastic professor and a good man. My first class with him was on video tape. Don't recall all of the details, but you went to a room, grabbed a tape of the next class and popped in the VCR old school.

I had him for BLog 301 around the same time. He literally wrote the book used to teach BLog at most colleges.

Did not remember him until I zoomed in on his pic. Then I flashed back to the videos. Classic.

May he RIP.

Earned an A in Logistics in the early 70's and Dr. Coyle courteously sent a congratulatory note. It was much appreciated.

I was sort of floundering around trying to pick a major in the College of Business when I took B Log 102 in Fall ‘74. I finally hit on something that really interested me. Dr Coyle was indeed one of those in the vanguard of the field and made Penn State’s program one of the best. He was a real gentleman and his department though not particularly large had some really fine professors and instructors. Sorry to read of his passing.

As a proud B Log / SCM graduate from Penn State, I owe a huge debt of gratitude to this man. He wrote so many of the books that we used in his, and other, classes. I can’t imagine how many other universities utilized his books and teachings, particularly as the SCM field exploded in popularity in the 2000s.

May you rest in peace, Dr Coyle. I hope you arrived to your destination Just In Time.

Whan I first saw this thread I sent a txt to a couple of PSU Smeal buddies - we all said the same thing - great teacher but who the F*** takes attendance in the Forum with 250-300 people in class. None of us were BLog majors so we only had him for the introductory class that was required for Business students.

But as others have said, he was Supply Chain Management and not just at PSU.

May he rest in Peace.

Dr. Coyle was terrific.

As an Accounting major who graduated in the early 1980s, I took BLog and Dr. Coyle's classes were always interesting since the subject matter was different than most of the other business offerings.

My intramural softball team also got a lift, thanks to Dr. Coyle, when he allowed our shortstop to take his BLog exam at a different time so our guy could play. Apparently, IM playoff games were worthy of an excused absence/opportunity to reschedule.
