Gaylord Perry, a Hall of Fame pitcher who won two Cy Young Awards over the course of his career, died in his home Thursday in South Carolina. He was 84.

Another great one gone. It was entertaining to watch him mess with hitters as to how much he was or was not doctoring the ball.

I remember watching him on WTBS in the latter part of his career. He was throwing the "puff ball", which involved coating the ball in rosin to cause a cloud of "smoke" coming out of his hand.

When I a kid, I went to a baseball camp in Georgia where a bunch of HOFers and former pros where doing most of the instruction.

I met him amongst the group. Got an autographed ball somewhere from all those guys. It's at my house somewhere, most likely lost until the next move.

This was probably late 90's that I went to the baseball camp.

Yep! I think them worrying about what he might have been doing to the ball hurt them more than what he actually WAS doing to it.
