Screaming Trees played an all-ages show at the Crowbar circa 1996. I was waiting in line out front and some folks walked by and no one really noticed. Then someone behind me was like 'I think that was band.' And I'm still not even sure if it was or not! Such an awesome band to be so anonymous. Lanegan had an interesting post-ST career, working with so many other folks. Sad day for rock music all around.

I love the one song of their’s that I know (Nearly Lost You) but I’ve never put any effort into listening to anything beyond that. Any album recommendation?

His memoir, which, according to my son (I have not read it), is a harrowing tale of a musicians descent into the maelstrom.

Here he is singing lead with QOTSA & Dave Grohl on drums

Man that gets me fired up. I had dreams of seeing them play that song live, and then I did see it and it was awesome. Without Grohl of course, a year too late for that.

Lollapalooza Philly 2003. One of my only successful boot & rallies.

Mark put his mark on some great Queens of the Stone Age albums. The Rated R and Songs for the Deaf benefited from his vocal stylings.

RIP. Dude was a huge talent. There must be a hex on the lead singers of the grunge bands. I think Eddie Vedder is the only one left of the bands that hit the big time.

Mark Arm is still with us, but that might be pushing it for people who ‘made it.’ And Buzz Osborne from the Melvins.

Sweet Oblivion is a great album, and has Nearly Lost You, which is essential Screaming Trees. But Dust just feels like a step forward. This is a highlight for me:
