College baseball coaching legend. 40 wins in 40 straight seasons is absolutely insane. Hard to believe he never got a national title, definitely had plenty of teams good enough for it.

I was always pulling for him to make it happen. He was a damn good guy, and wasn’t hard to root for. Stark contrast from the midget roid rager in Gainesville.

And also it’s not lost on me that he was the coach in the other dugout for several of our all time great postseason moments. Masters, Pigott, MacNamee. We personally took out a handful of those great FSU teams. But man he had a bunch of them. And made it to Omaha as a 3 seed in his last hurrah.
