I can’t remember the last time I saw Gould miss one. Maybe during his PSU days.
his percentage of made FGs is quite high, but he's only had one season in the NFL where he was 100% in terms of his made FGs to his FG attempts. He had missed 1 previously this season (9/18, against the Seahawks).
FWIW, the lowest % of his career was 2019, when he made 23 of 31 attempts, or 74.2%. Heading into tonight's game, he was 86.4% for his NFL career, having made 425 FGs out of 492 attempts.
Leaving him go cost Da’ Bears at least 1/2 a dozen games over the next 2-3 seasons.
Unless Da Bears were destitute (pretty tough for a NFL team to be), it's hard to justify their not resigning him after the 2015 season. In his last 3 seasons with Da Bears, he was:
Year | Made | Attempts | Pct. |
2015 | 33 | 39 | 84.6 |
2014 | 9 | 12 | 75.0 |
2013 | 26 | 29 | 89.7 |
Yeah, veterans make more than rookies in the NFL, but a dependable placekicker wins games, and is worth the cost to a smart, well-run team.
