Good luck to him. I still feel he got too much blame for Iowa, even though he wasn't good. It's as if he was the only one who did poorly when there was plenty of blame to spread around.

It would have been nice to have a run game to take the heat off a young, inexperienced QB thrown into a difficult situation. Lo and behold, the run game sucked balls.

I don't.. The kid was put in a. tough situation in Iowa. He still IMO has talent and someone will give him one.

Wish him the best.
I wish him the best too, but he's got an awkward throwing motion and looked like a deer in headlights when the pressure was on.

How strange is it that right now we only have 2 scholarship QB’s on the roster, with a 5 year difference in class…a lot of poor QB recruiting and bad luck from ‘18-‘21…

Not surprising. He was scapegoated for the Iowa and somehow the Illinois losses. It wasn't his fault they didn't use a silent snap count in Iowa, some might dare to say the head coach is responsible for that one.

I'm not sure you can say "poor QB recruiting".
Every class since 2017 had a consensus 4 star.
From top of my head:
2017: Clifford
2018: Levis
2019: Roberson
2020: Bowens
2021: Veilleaux

Tough to maintain a QB room when you have kids transferring out after knowing they won't get a chance to start. With the portal you have to hit lightning in a bottle with a freshman or patient redshirt freshman or they are gonna bolt.

I hope more fans than just me remember the humility and toughness this kid showed answering media questions after his complete failure in front of a national audience that night in IOWA. He spoke eloquently, honestly, made no attempt to pass blame, showed nothing but humility. Many adults and people in higher positions, such as his coach, have handled failure without a fraction of the grace this kid showed. I think Roberson will be a success wherever he goes in life and I wish him well.

He will do well with lower competition. He is a fine athlete. Look for teams from the MAC or ACC Coastal to go after him.
Your new starting Quarterback for the Pitt Panthers....Ta'Quan Roberson.

When you “settle” on Levis after losing Fields and then lose him to the portal. Then have 2 QB’s (Michael Johnson Jr, and Micah Bowens) leave less than a year on campus, and have another “4 star” get beat out by a true freshman after being on campus for 3 years, I’d say that’s pretty much the definition of poor recruiting/evaluation and bad luck.

No one has insisted that Franklin ruined him yet. Monday morning, I guess. Off to a slow start.

So, that makes four in the portal so far

Rudolph
Jennings
Holmes
Roberson

Based on what I saw, PSU was 2 under the 85 limit with those players on the roster.

That puts PSU 6 under the limit before new scholarship kids and any "inportalilng".

Still some juggling to be done I would assume.

The ACC Coastal should be part of the MAC. It isn't major college football. The ACC Coastal is just slightly above high school level play.
Mt. Lebanon might be just a couple point underdog to Pitt. But if Picket sits out, Lebo would likely be a favorite in that matchup.

Was it an ugly performance? - Yes
Was it a bit of a perfect storm? -Yes
If it fair to judge a player on a single game, their first game at that? - No

It wasn't pretty but there were plenty of extenuating circumstances. Wish him the best.

What many forget (conveniently for this discussion) is how awful of a year SC had in '20. Yurcich probably had to do a lot to get his confidence built back, teach him the new system, and fix his mechanics.

The fact that CV looked competent and capable a month after Roberson's disaster at Iowa tells me that some roster posturing went on. Once CV showed his ability, it was definitely sending TR to the portal.

I have this feeling that he's going to light it up wherever he goes, and we're going to be asking why the heck he couldn't do that here when he had the chance.

Best of luck to him.
I think with the right system he can be pretty productive. I think with some help in IC he could have been productive that day as well.

I hope for the kid he can have a nice college career somewhere. After seeing him play one game I had no expectation of that happening at Penn State.
