Did anyone grab a burger before they closed? I was going to head down last night but they ran out of food and closed early.

So, it was a solid fixture in that corridor, almost an institution. It's always bad to see those go.
They were in a nice building and good location. I would be surprised if we don’t see another, similar place open there.

The story in the State hinted at that possibility but nothing solid was mentioned.

Suprised they didn't sell the building and the business. Maybe there wasn't a market for a sale. They did very little advertising and didn't have a visible sign to mark the business and did well.

They did sell it to a local developer who is planning on renovating it and bringing another restaurant in there. That is what the article I read the other day in the Post and Currier said.

They actually closed down on Wednesday. They originally were going to stay open until Sunday but after the word got out about them closing, people flocked to the restaurant and they ran out of food and supplies.

This was a post on their Facebook page Thursday.

Wow Columbia! We are so grateful for you! For over 40 years, we have had the pleasure serving you and now we look forward to being on the other side of a bar! Originally, we planned to stay open til January 21st, but so many people came out to show their support, that we ran out of food and supplies last night and are unable to continue. We are excited to see what Cason Development Group does with this location in Columbia’s coolest Micro Urban district. Cheers to all! #casondevelopmentgroup #colaeats #experiencecolumbiasc #ColumbiaEats

Understand. I thought someone would come in and buy the Rockaway name etc rather than putting in a new restaurant.

Absolutely loved that place in my youth before the fire - great prices on longnecks and the annual crawfish festival in the back parking lot - stumbled out the back door too many times to stay at friends' houses that lived close by.

I currently do not live in SC full-time now, but I noticed where they had moved the crawfish festival to the fairgrounds - when did they move it away from the Rockaways' parking lot?
