Martinez the time of day is beyond me.

I mean, the guy got FIRED. That's a pretty big red flag right there without any stats, which aren't impressive either.

Martinez is a horrible coordinator. His players have poor technique and tackling skills. His defenses are typically in the bottom rung of the SEC ladder with 4 star and 5 star recruits.

UGA fans have been pressuring Richt to fire Martinez for years. It finally took Richt almost losing his job to finally fire his buddy.

He has done pretty well at Ole Miss.

I guess "pretty well" against teams that don't run the dreaded zone read option and are better than Memphis. And heck, even they put some points on the board against his defense.

I don't see Nix doing any better than what he did last season.

finished 30th in the nation in total d this past season. Not at the top tier, but not scraping the bottom of the barrell either, as you would believe reading comments from some people.

Having said that, I'll trust Mullen until he screws something up. He's pushed most of the right buttons so far.

Is there some kind of <17> SEC rule where we can't have a good offense and defense at the same time?

Your program history?

Your HC's connections throughout the NCAA?

Based on what?

2008 - 19th overall, 4th in the SEC. 20th in scoring defense, 5th in SEC

2009 - 24th overall, 5th in the SEC. 17th in scoring defense, 4th in SEC.

Yeah, he's done an absolutely ****** job.

His top 25 and top 20 defenses the last two years have just been ******, haven't they?

Your fans mentally fondled Ellis Johnson for similar results.

Out of 12 opponents he faced this season, five were in the nation's top 65 in total offense. A couple of those beat his *** and Mississippi State (no. 66) shoulda scored 50 on him.

I apologize if I don't bow at the feet of a coach who let a Chris Relf-led offense go crazy using 1/100th of its playbook.</p>

Let's not look at the big picture or anything. I like Nix. I'd take him. Especially over the UGA guy.

OSU runs a lot of zone read option.

And thanks for looking up the stats for me that show that his defense is getting worse. Spurrier fired him for a reason. And it wasn't because he wanted to gift a good DC to Ole Miss or to allow him to go back home to Mississippi.

Since Ellis Johnson replaced Tyrone Nix. But maybe Spurrier felt sorry for his wife since we don't have malls in Starkville.

Not that I support hiring the guy, but the majority of coaches in college football have been fired at some point.

Apparently, both defenses were on the decline at the previous school they were coaching.
Both were let go.
The only differences are that UGA is a better program than South Carolina but Nix is from MS.

if posters are correct - Both the USC defenses and UGA defenses were declining. Both were essentially let go by their respective teams.

You obviously haven't looked up the stats yourself.

The 2009 defense was better than the 2008 defense in almost every single meaningful statistic except rushing defense numbers, including tfl (4th nationally in 2008, 55th in 2009 in rush D). Any knowledgeable person would understand that has as much to do with losing Peria Jerry (the 2008 SEC leader in TFL) as anything.

2009 Pass defense - better

2009 scoring defense - better

2009 Pass efficiency - better

2009 3rd down defense - better

2009 Red Zone defense - better

But yeah, great point you have there, that defense is definitely on the decline.

That's 5 worse than last year. By definition, that is a decline.

But we would have been bowling with a 24th ranked D.

You would have also been bowling if your offense didn't suck *** for 11 games.
