Non-Division I opponents are not considered when it comes to RPI. The Eagles will be penalized for playing four NAIA schools.

But when do they get penalized? At the end of the year? Currently they are at number 4 which in turn gives Ole Miss a big bump in RPI due to their win against USM. Damn I wish we had USM on our schedule.

I thought he was referring to the the selection committee penalizing them if they happen to be on the bubble.

I've been searching for something online that verifies what I've heard and I've not seen anything yet. When I find something I will post it.

The eagles have played all but 1 game on the road.

We shouldn't upgrade our schedule in terms of opponents, we should just start playing all of our cupcake games on the road. Keep the home OOC slate limited to 1-3 games yearly.

USM being No. 4 doe snot give us a bump in the RPI. The only bump we get from USM is their 4-1 record (according to RPI calcs), and their opponents's record, which is pretty good. You don't get bonus points based on where your opponents are ranked. 25% of your opponent's RPI calculation doesn't even factor into your own RPI calculation.

The bump we will get is in our record vs. the Top 50 and our record vs. the Top 100, depending on where they finish in the RPI, but that's only a factor in your NCAA resume that the selection committee considers.

And yes, USM's NAIA games effectively count as exhibitions. They don't go into the RPI calculation, and they really wouldn't even count against them with the selection committee if they do well in their other games.

USM is 7-1 in actual games, but as far as the RPI is concerned, they're only 4-1. So as far as the RPI knows, they never played those other games.

And I don't think it's as easy as saying "Ole Miss got a big bump in RPI" by playing USM. That's yet to be seen. The RPI is technically meaningless until all games have been played. Now, it means more as the year progresses, but until a lot more games have been played, it doesn't really mean much. If USM is still that high in February/March, it will carry some weight. When calculating the ratings, the RPI doesn't say, "Ole Miss beat #4 USM. They should get a boost." It doesn't work that way. If USM finishes ranked #79, that's all that matters. It doesn't matter that they were once in the top 5.

a road win over Jackson State is the same as a road win over Duke when looking strictly at how the outcome affects your RPI before adjustments.

How dare you suggest anything other than 15 cupcakes at the Hump. RPIs of 250+ preferred. All that matters is winning!

We do owe it to our fans to play at home more than 1-3 times in the OOC like the guy said earlier. You do have to get comfortable on your home court before SEC play begins.
