It's stupid. It's stupid in basketball and even moreso in baseball. Relying strictly on data is just as ignorant as not relying on data at all.
To basketballs credit they have moved away from it. It’s now a mostly secret formula. I guess the good thing about that is you can’t try to game it like you can RPI.It's stupid. It's stupid in basketball and even moreso in baseball. Relying strictly on data is just as ignorant as not relying on data at all.
If we’d just win the games on our schedule that we could have and should have we’d be on the Top 8 bubble.Been around for years. Rewards teams for playing tough schedules and winning tougher games.
Know its a dead horse around here, but typically the SEC benefits very well with the RPI metric.... as seen with the top 5 RPI rated teams are all from the SEC.
We dont rate well this year because we dodged Tenn and Kentucky.. and because our non conference scheduled sucked to put it mildly. Had we played just one tough weekend in the non conference our RPI would be probably 10-11 right now and we'd be on the bubble of hosting a SUPER not hosting period.
agreed. But again its how the SEC is king when it comes to RPI which is why we shouldnt complain. We are benefitting from that same SEC wave as alabama is...It's not just the relying on data. They're relying on bad data with RPI. Take Alabama for instance. They're solidly ahead of us in RPI at #14. But they're 12-17 in Q1 games. That's easily the most Q1 games anyone has played but they're 5 games under .500 in those games. For comparison, we're 12-11 in Q1 games (one of only 9 schools with 10+ Q1 wins and a winning Q1 record), won the head to head with Alabama, and are 4-5 vs what RPI says are 3 of the 4 best teams in the country. By any rational measure, we should be ranked higher than Alabama.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Fact is, we didn't win those games because we weren't good enough to win those games. Our record is what we deserve, as is everyone else's.If we’d just win the games on our schedule that we could have and should have we’d be on the Top 8 bubble.
AF, AP, 1or 2 FL, C Ark and 1 OM and 1 Ark
hell we probably are ranked in Top 8
weve lost some we could have won... weve won some we could have lost... all that evens out. If UGA fields a ground ball on sunday they win that series.. but thats never mentioned around here. If Hines doesnt hit the homer against vandy... can go on and on and onIf we’d just win the games on our schedule that we could have and should have we’d be on the Top 8 bubble.

Typically if you schedule with RPI in mind or at least challenging yourself, you will be fine. A few years ago Arizona ended up being around .500. Worse than we thought but no gonna kill the RPI. Scheduling Mt St Mary’s, Alcorn AND North Alabama on the other hand, you know what you are signing up for.RPI gives you points for schedule but the problem is, you're assigned the conference schedule and you could schedule great thinking top teams are top teams but if those teams have a couple injuries and suck, well, you get taken down too.
And look at softball, we finished 6th in the SEC. A&M 4th. AL finished 9th. AL got a one seed host as the 14 seed while we travel cross country as a 2 seed and A&M got a 16 seed. It's all horseshlitz as Hunter Hines would say on an open mic.
I absolutely agree with this.Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Fact is, we didn't win those games because we weren't good enough to win those games. Our record is what we deserve, as is everyone else's.
Agreed.I absolutely agree with this.
Some on here think thoughthat they should just hand us a Host spot.
I’d love to get it and be grateful for it, I just don’t know that we’re really deserving bc we couldn’t win those winnable games. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get a host spot even if we sweep MO.
