Gene is feeling the pressure and is chasing the Staff at BulldawgJunction and he regrets certain writers have aligned themselves with the Junction.

Hey, Gene, sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is a train.

Surely they'll have an opening back at the railroad, or Mary Ann can get you on at the jail.

If BDJ gets good information (as they probably will), then Gene will lose a lot of membership, much like I think this site has negatively affected his business somewhat. However, he will still have a solid core customer base for two reasons: 1) his affiliation with scout; people will still pay for that affiliation, and 2) he will always have a customer base that wants to hear the positive spin on everything.

I think the Rivals site is the one that is going to have the most problems. They have been awful for months now. I don't see too many folks leaving GP for Bulldawg Junction, but Rivals members have been dropping like flies lately regardless of Bulldawg Junction. I left myself before I ever heard of Bulldawg Junction and will probably join there now.

It is funny how Rivals is more popular, especially the message boards with teams like Auburn and Georgia compared to MSU. I think Scout is more popular for MSU message boarders. (6-Pack not included)

I am glad to see a new face in the crowd with BDJ. Damn Gene....can't win forever!</p>

1. Does the MSU athletics department have an exclusive arrangement with Scout.com (de facto or de jure)?

2. Will Greg Byrne's upcoming tenure as AD mean that more electronic media sites will be allowed to have media credentials?

3. If more electronic media sites have access to more media credentials, is it the death of Gene's Page as we know it?

4. If more electronic media sites have access to more media credentials, will sites such as Rivals.com thrive instead of suffer as hypothesized earlier in the thread?

What I think is this. Greg Byrne is all about publicizing the program and sites such as Bulldawg Junction will be able to obtain media credentials. ESPN/Wardlaw are doing a good job of taking the initiative and striking while the iron is hot.

I would not be surprised if there is increased coverage of MSU athletics by Scout, Rivals, and Bulldawg Junction. I also would not be surprised if these sites have game stories this upcoming season.

And this means as DS has stated that Gene & David will have to work a heck of a lot more than they have, but they do have the advantage of the relationships they've built over the years with people at MSU.

I'm going to enjoy the 2008-09 academic year/athletics season as far as MSU is concerned. There's going to be a lot of good work (and bad as well as mediocre) done by the folks involved in these enterprises.

with press credentials. It has everything to do with having sources in the athl. dept and on the staffs that will give you the heads up on a commit. There is a reason that Gene reports virtually every commit first. He doesn't just get lucky calling the recruits. I think the addition of Murray really helped him.

there's no difference in the access Gene/Murray get to the programs compared to what Rob gets. The difference is the information that is given, or was under the LT administration, to Gene and Co before it became official in exchange for painting every situation with a maroon colored brush. Geno and Robertson like to tout breaking almost every commit before The Blitz. Well, it's easy to do that when someone on staff gives you the heads up to call that recruit as soon as something happens. It's this agreement that has censored DM's opinions since he joined Scout. With that said, Murray has been much more candid about certain issues and more open to criticism on others recently which leads me to believe the same agreement might not be in place with the new administration.
