It looks like we are going to have to rely on the portal for running backs. Our top three on the depth chart are out of eligibility and I didn’t see any on the signing list. I know Braswell is going into the portal. Do we have anyone I’m missing currently on the team?

Matthew Fuller, true freshman, was supposed to be a good pickup.

RB is the position I’m most concerned about on the O side of the ball. We’re going to miss Rocket next year!!

Yea, our staff has been really high on this guy, right?
Haven’t heard anything about him this year. If I recall, he surged late in the recruiting rankings. He had a great opportunity to sit and learn this year from an NFL caliber back.

We signed RB Joaquil Holman out of Blacksburg, SC. Any good?

I didn’t know about Fuller and Howell.
Thanks for the info. I’m glad we are not thin at RB like last year.

Fuller and Howell are going to be fantastic….wait and see. They were redshirted intentionally.
This right here. I'm very excited about Fuller.

Also, given the national perception, I'd be willing to bet there'll be a number of really good RBs looking to transfer here because sharing the backfield with LaChuckNorris could be quite fruitful.

I always like comments from other players on the player, they don't have to say anything about another guy, if you think about it, but do speak up about the young guys from time to time. Fuller could also explain why Djay Braswell transferred, he may have been passed by a younger player in the pecking order.

Oscar Adaway III on Fuller:

“He’s a dog with all of the tools inside of the toolbox, from a pocketknife all the way to a wrench,” Adaway III said. “This guy’s going to be great. He’s just a young kid, but he’s going to be one of those ones, for sure, later on in life.”

He added that he has already provided Fuller with advice before the freshman begins his college football career.

“I just tell him certain things like, ‘Hey, don’t be messed up about this and messed up about that. Yes, you got four more years, but also… go out there and play ball like it’s your last day every single day,'” Adaway III said.

We need backs who can hit the hole and go. But first, there needs to be a hole.
Right, and as you implied, when we have holes, they often close quickly. lol. So, our RB needs to hit it hard and fast - which also means having the vision to see the hole immediately.

That's good stuff and yes there is a reason Braswell transferred.

Adaway’s bio says this was his 6th year so I don’t think he’s coming back. Back in 2000 a lot of players got a bonus Covid year. That plus a red shirt gave some six years of eligibility. Unless there is some other circumstance five years will be the max going forward. Anyway it sounds like we’re OK at running back. Still I’d like to see another Rocket type player from the portal.

I'd like to use one of our own this year. Rocket made sense last year because we didn't the bodies. I don't want to get stuck in a cycle of always relying on 1 year portal rentals and never developing our own talent.

Portal should be used to plug holes.

That's a great point. So many portal players are one and done. If we find a really good player with a couple of years left that would be nice.

Yeah, if we can find someone to come in and complement what we have, that would be great. Always need bodies at the position.

And, who knows? Maybe the ones we have won't pan out.
