O.K. we know the corndog is big, tall, strong arm and supposedly has alot of upside even though he is a benedict arnold. Alot of people claimed that garrett didn't get it done on the field like his rating and offers suggested he should. So, with that rant out of the way, what is the lowdown on Russell?

in the 6'4" - 6'5" range. Has a strong accurate arm and can run also. Weighs about 210 but has plenty of room to fill in. Good athlete who can even bring it on the baseball mound.

....and now for my bulldog backer impression. This is what I saw in the video. Very good arm. Able to improvise in that he took something off some of the passes when he needed to. Looked like he ran the option and qb draw a couple of times, decent speed, and pretty good size. A little wiry, but looks like he has about a foot on Henig.

What we need for an accurate impression is a comparison to an NFL Hall of Fame quarterback.

he is a really solid young man. I am very happy for him and MSU.

He's obviously a Croom guy with high character, and Garret obviously wasn't.

Which pretty much negates the Christian religion doesn't it? Or at least introduces some sort of paradox that even Jesus himself couldn't explain.

Bulldog Backer quotables.

His sinewy thighs ripple as he strides like a gazelle across the field. He is a combination of Joe Montana, Fran Tarkenton, Ken Stabler, Michael Vick and Jesus.

It only makes sense for his mom to be hot...very hot. Sounds like a Ron Mexico sighting.

I seriously think we have gotten the better of this deal. I was pissed about losing Garrett only because I didn't really think we had a great shot of signing Russell. He's the one I, and I think most people, really wanted all along.

were writing after Garrett committed, I think Russell is the more talented of the two. There was a huge debate on Bulldogblitz over if Croom made a mistake by supposedly telling the Garrett's he was our only QB recruit.

While the excitement over Russell may sound like sour grapes, I think most knowledgeable State fans would trade Garrett for Russell in a heart beat.

I would have liked to have both, and then may the best man win the job. I guess Garrett eliminated himself from the competition.

Russell has always been the one I wanted. Even when Garrett was the one committed to us. I think Garrett has very good potential. I just think Russell has more potential. And if one of those players turns out to be a complete bust, my money is on Garrett.

...and despite your "quotables," I think he has excellent potential. He is nothing like any of the QB's you mention, because all of them, except Ken Stabler, were barely 6-0. In fact, my quote about him is that he "has excellent potential," and I'll add here that he just needs a QB coach.

If he is better than Garrett, he should have at least as many offers. Or was everyone just waitng for Croom to make the first move?

My thoughts about that:

It's my understanding that Garrett and Moore have done alot more "marketing" than Tyler - not just this year, but also in previous years. Up until this year, Tyler just practiced and played ball (but he did go to the Manning camp last summer and, I think, MSU's camp).

Also, I think the fact that Garrett was the starter in his 10th grade year (and played alot his in his 9th??) and Tyler split time with a senior QB in a new system (Tyler's 10th grade year was Coach Weems' first year and the first year MHS employed the spread O) probably resulted in Garrett getting earlier and better pub than Tyler.
