One of the real playoff caliber big boys would chew them up and spit them out. The option doesn't work very well when the back side DT can run your back down from behind before he gets out of the backfield. We won't get into what a real big boy offense would do to their defense. If I'm one of the big boys in the playoffs, I do not want to play Navy or Army in a first round game. I mentioned weeks ago that Navy has changed their triple option to include some effective passing options. They just aren't a pure triple option offfense any more. They are much more dangerious. Memphis found that out and others will too. The ND games coming up for Navy and Army are potential potholes for the Irish. Will be interesting to see if they prepare for them well......or not.

Nah man, I've never been a big fan of the triple option offense for us. You need to have a smart QB, who is also willing to be an option QB. Hard to get guys to do that unless you are at an Army/Navy/Air Force locale. Even Georgia Tech struggled with it and they are Academic U, although they likely maxed out what you can do with it at the P4 level.Goat incoming in 3-2-1 to say "sEe I tOlD yAll wE nEEdEd a giMMick awfence hEre, anD $abAn uhGreeze wIth mE"
Meh, I don't know if they could find the right QB either.Btw- If USM was smart they would go this route. Now’s their chance.
Last game vs a P4 opponent, LSU beat Army 62-0 last year, Navy lost to Notre Dame 42-3 last year. One of the real playoff caliber big boys would chew them up and spit them out. You do realize that Army and Navy both have modernized their offense to include being in the shotgun half the time. In fact the guys you listed are considered now less gimmicky than they once were. In fact they’re common compared to the modernized versions of what army and navy are doing. And it’s the sam type qb that you speak of btw.I'm more of a Willie Fritz, Gus Malzahn, Rich Rod gimmick guy. We can find those QBs easily.
First off we would and could get much better athletes across the board than army or navy. Secondly, no matter what, how often have we beaten LSU in the last 100 years? It would be the same with ND.Last game vs a P4 opponent, LSU beat Army 62-0 last year, Navy lost to Notre Dame 42-3 last year.
We would have nowhere near the discipline those teams do. Again, Georgia Tech is what will happen - which, isn't bad.First off we would and could get much better athletes across the board than army or navy. You say they are in the gun more, so what? We'd be better off doing things more wide-open than the triple option, no matter how modern. We will need to throw the ball much more than they do.
