What do you figure the max is for a quality hire? I've been saying that we will have to be in the $500k range, including all available perks, to draw serious interest from the top candidates around the country. I've been told we can't afford that, but I don't believe it. Would it take that to bring a top name head coach from another area of the country?

Well, I just don't think we'll be able to get into that salary neighborhood...but I could be wrong, but I just can't see it as tight as our budget is.

Polk's salary is around 205.000 this year....I could see us probably offering 300,000 per yr, maybe even 350,000 on the top end. I just can't see us raising our coaches' salary 150%

I think we should make a commitment to make our job the highest paying job in the nation.

If MSU can put up 300,000 or so, I think that the BC and Dugout Club should do some fundraisers to help supplement the rest. Also, don't forget that $200,000 from the Cigar Boys is chump change.

So, I think it's very doable. As I said last night, I would be very willing to up my BC donation especially if I knew that I could earmark so much towards the baseball coach, as long as it is a quality coach. I really think all MSU baseball fans should do this if at all possible.

Also, 3,000 people donating 100 dollars = $300,000.

We need to really make a statement that we are serious about baseball and winning baseball.

David Murray said we are on track for 1,200 new members this year. We defiantely need a lot more. I wish I could join, but being in school never helps. I plan on doing so in a year, though.

that we should do everything possible to make this the highest paid job in the country, or at least in the top 2 or 3. If the hard core baseball fans will get behind it, it can be done I believe.

with relative ease. However, when we do,will other HC's l automatically get raises because of contract clauses?.

but that's not any different than anything else. I also would daresay that we care a lot more about baseball than most schools, so that will keep salaries down somewhat. You get what you pay for, and apparently 200K is only good enough for "That's baseball."

We also might get some surprising candidates if we up the salary. We are already pretty attractive being in the SEC, having our facilities and our fanbase, having a high salary will probably allow us to get a quality coach who will recruit well and want to win a NC. Polk has set the bar high, but at the same time it's not so high that it can't be outdone.

Of course, it all depends on who you want to get. 500k may not be enough to get somebody from California, but it would probably get Cohen from UK.

is 600K when you include baseball camp stuff, and etc. We're talking about base salary, which you may be talking about as well, but I can't tell from your post. But what I'm saying is that we should pay our coach 500-600K base salary, and then you throw in the other misc. stuff and you come out with roughly 1M for the total package.

For the gozillionth time.....Scruggs contributes very little to athletics.

If you're waiting on our athletic budget to fall due to Scruggs, you'll be disappointed.

Now if you're concerned about renovations to a 100 year old building or some extra books, yea it might hurt.

has ever said that the Ole Miss athletic budget is going to crunble because Scruggs is in the pokey, but I'm sure he did contribute some- probably more than your average fan with the plastic chandaleir and chinet at their Grove tailgate.

You don't exactly have UF's budget either, and you like us could probably use all the help you can get.

For example, if the Bryan's all of a sudden went bankrupt, it certainly wouldn't destroy our athletic budget, but I'd sure hate to lose what they contribute nonetheless.

I still think MSU fans are under the illusion DS contributes some outrageous amount to athletics. That's simply not true.

Probably one of his biggest contributions is the use of his jet.

Khayat is pretty consistent on keeping certain donors for academics and others for athletics. Rarely do the two mix in substantial amounts.
